Lion Theatre Camp

Lion Theatre Camp Originally incepted as GPAC at Grayson County Community College in 2014, Lion Theatre Camp has called Texas A&M University - Commerce home since 2018!

Nestled in the heart of East Texas, Lion Theatre camp at Texas A&M University - Commerce is the MOST COST-EFFECTIVE 2-week residential summer theatre camp in Texas for incoming 9th graders through senior theatre students. Upon your arrival at Lion Theatre camp, acting and technical theatre students can expect to be greeted by a rally of camp staff! Every student will stay on-campus at TAMUC, accom

panied by their community directors and other camp staff. Once checked-in and settle into your room, you can mingle, meet, and collaboratively prepare for your auditions later that evening. Students will then be assigned to one of the productions with one of our camp directors. Once assigned to a production, students will experience intensive, practical classes in the morning, followed by rehearsals for each production in the afternoon and evening. Our camp directors and staff are comprised of a diverse panel of Award-Winning educational and professional theatre practitioners! We pride ourselves on our ability to invite and retain the state's best theatre professionals year-after-year! So what are you waiting for? Mark your calendar and plan to join us next summer!

Holly Stone, PROPERTIES

Holly A. Stone has taught/directed in Texas for over 14 years and currently is the lead director at Lakeview Centennial High School. She is alumni of TAMU-Commerce. She has presented at Texas Thespian Festival, and at Lion Theatre Camp.

Michael Knight, LIGHTING

Michael Knight has been involved in Theatre for as long as he can remember. He holds a BS in Theatre Arts from Texas A&M University- Commerce, and an MFA in Theatre Design from The University of Mississippi. Michael Knight has designed lights, scenery, sound, and properties for Theatre, TV, video, corporate events, as well as conventions and concerts of all kinds. He has also served in nearly every backstage/tech job that theatre has had to offer. He is currently the Assoc. Professor of Theatre Design at Texas A&M University- Commerce, where he also serves as the Head of the Department of Theatre. Michael is very excited to be able to return once again, to work with this year’s Lion Summer Theatre Camp.

Katie Davis, SCENIC

Katy Davis is the Technical Theatre Director at University High School in Waco, TX. She has her BA from the University of Houston and has worked as a stage manager, technician, and designer in a variety of shows since her first gig back in 2001. She is also on the board of Texas thespians as the Texas Team Design Challenges Chair for the State Festival.

It's Friday, Friday, gotta announce more staff on Friday! Don't forget to register for camp before May 1st, spots are filling up! Meet our 2024 COSTUME, HAIR, & MAKEUP STAFF:

Jasmin Zamora, COSTUME, HAIR, & MAKEUP

Director Jasmin Zamora grew up in Dallas and Mesquite, TX. She received her Bachelors of Arts in Theatre from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2017. She is currently the Director of Theatre Performance at Mesquite High School. She has been a theatre director with Mesquite ISD for seven years. This is her second year working with Lion Theatre Camp and her first year as a Costume, Hair, and Makeup designer for the camp. She cannot wait to make more lasting memories and connect with theatre students all across the state.

Michelle Greene, COSTUME, HAIR, & MAKEUP

Michelle Greene has spent over 25 years in theater and theatre education. She studied Arts Management at Chatham College and New York University and has her Master's degree in Theatre Arts from Texas A&M-Commerce. She is the lead director at Braswell High School, where she teachers one of her favorite classes-- Technical Theatre 2: Costume Construction, as well as Musical Theatre I-II, Production I-IV and Theatre I-II. Her students have gone on to work professionally both On and Off-Broadway. One of her favorite things about costume design and construction is helping tell the story and empower actors through their costumes. When not at the theater, you can find Michelle at the barn with her two horses or running her social media/marketing agency, ManeStage Media.

Gabriela Tamez, COMMUNITY DIRECTOR

Dedicated to bringing the arts to the underserved, I have made it a point in my career to making sure that underprivileged (and often overlooked) students get the resources they need to succeed, theatrically or otherwise. Theatrical specialties include directing, sound design, and dramaturgy.

Miller Motley, COMMUNITY DIRECTOR

Miller holds a Bachelor's in Theatre from Texas A&M University - Commerce. He is currently in his fourth year of teaching and directing at Trinidad High School. He is tremendously excited to be serving as Community Director for his first year at Lion Theatre Camp!

Jamie Rogers, ACTING CLASS INSTRUCTOR

Jamie Rogers holds an MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School and an MFA in Arts Administration from Texas Tech University. Currently, Jamie is an Associate Professor of Drama at Austin Community College and a Teaching Artist at the Georgetown Palace Theatre Education. He has worked as an actor and teacher in New York City, Los Angeles, and in various cities across the country. Recent Directing credits at ACC Drama were the Fall 2023 production of Bat Boy the Musical, the Spring 23 production of The Snow (nominated for 8 B Iden Payne Awards, including Outstanding Direction of Theater for Young Audiences) & the Fall 21 production of Lonely Planet (nominated for 4 B Iden Payne Awards, including Outstanding Production of Digital Theatre & Outstanding Direction of Digital Theatre). Other recent directing credits include: Clue The High School Edition,The Laramie Project, Pippin, The Stronger. Favorite acting performances include Hector Hushabye in Heartbreak House (Different Stages-Austin & B Iden Payne Award Nomination for Outstanding Featured Performer in a Comedy), Louis in Angels in America (NoHo Arts Center), Vince in Tape (Westbeth Theatre, NYC), Reverend Shaw in Footloose (Theatre West Virginia), Mr. Banks in Mary Poppins (Lubbock Moonlight Musicals), Trigorin in The Seagull, Mark in Rent, and Uncle Peck in How I Learned to Drive (TTU School of Theatre and Dance). Jamie is excited to be joining Lion Theatre Camp this summer!

Patrick Darling, IMPROVISATION CLASS INSTRUCTOR

I am Patrick Darling! I will be returning to Lion Theatre Camp 2024 as the improvisation instructor. When I am not at LTC, I am usually at rehearsal for whatever show is going on at Texas A&M University Commerce or conducting meetings for our student-organized improv troupe: Cricket City. As both an alumni and returning employee of Lion Theatre Camp, I am so excited to see what this Summer has in store for all of us!

Donna Deverell, PRODUCTION MANAGER

Donna Deverell is the Production Manager and Adjunct Faculty at TAMUC. She holds an MFA in Theatrical Design and Management from University of Idaho. At TAMUC Donna teaches a variety of theatrical design and management classes, as well as designing various aspects of the season. Donna has two amazing adult children, and she lives with her two beloved felines.

Miles Menendez, PRODUCTION STAGE MANAGER

Miles Menendez is serving as the Production Stage Manager for this Camp. He's from Missouri City, and currently attending Pace University to get a BA in Stage Management. Previous educational work is serving as the technical director and teacher for Fort Bend ISD's theatre summer camp. He's very excited to be joining the team for Lion camp this year!

We aren't stopping with introducing our amazing staff! Don't forget to register for camp before May 1st, spots are filling up! Meet our 2024 STAGE DIRECTORS:

Magda Mirelez, STAGE DIRECTOR

Magda Mirelez, a graduate of Bay City HS, has taught Debate and Theatre at BCISD for twenty seven years. Magda has a Masters in Theatre Arts from the University of Houston. As a Speech and Debate coach, she coached two TFA State Champions, twelve UIL State Champions, and two UIL One Act Play State Champions. Magda has coached 106 UIL Individual State Qualifiers since 1998 and has directed the UIL One Act Play to the State Championships 7 times.

Magda’s teaching philosophy is to create a safe and nurturing space where students can practice empathy, challenge injustice and value tradition in their journey to personal and unparalleled team excellence.

Magda currently serves as the Bay City HS Fine Arts Instructional Leader and is the Head Theatre Director at Bay City HS. She is the Texas Educational Theatre Association’s K-12 representative to the Board, where she serves all theatre teachers in Texas. The National Federation of High Schools awarded Magda its highest National Award, as the 2022 National Citation Winner in Speech, Debate and Theatre.

Magda says her greatest reward is seeing students experience their work impact others and lists among her most important roles, wife to Police Officer Michael Mirelez and mom to their three children Miguel, Madison and Matthew.

Julio Morales, STAGE DIRECTOR

Julio Morales serves as the Theatre Director at Sharpstown High School in Houston, TX, marking his 13th year in education. He earned his BA in Drama from The University of St. Thomas-Houston and an MA in Theatre Production and Design from Southern Oregon University. He also holds the position of K-12 Chair for TxETA. Julio was awarded the Golden Apple Award in 2024 through Texas Thespians and the TxETA K-12 Educator of the Year Award in 2020. Mr. Morales is excited to join the Lion Camp experience!

Rebecca Worley (She/Her), CAMP DIRECTOR

Becca Worley is an Associate Professor of Theatre and Assistant Head of the Department of Theatre at TAMU-C. This is her fourth year as the Lion Theatre Camp Director and sixth as a LTC staff member. She has been involved in theatre since childhood and has participated in the UIL OAP contest for over 20 years as an actor, director, clinician, advisory board member, and contest manager. She holds a BFA in Acting/Directing and an MFA in Performance and Pedagogy from Texas Tech University. Becca can’t wait to work with so many awesome high school students & educators at Lion Theatre Camp!

Baxter Chaney (He/Him), ASSOCIATE CAMP DIRECTOR

Baxter Chaney currently serves as a teacher for the Region 10 Day School Program for the Deaf at North Mesquite High School. Mr. Chaney also serves on the Texas Junior Thespian Board of Directors as the Advocacy Liaison. He is an active theatre practitioner, teaching artist, and public educator in the DFW area. This is his second year as a Lion Theatre Camp Associate Director and fifth as a LTC staff member. He has been involved in theatre since high school and has participated in the UIL OAP contest for over 10 years as an actor, director, contest manager/staff, adjudicator, and UIL state meet staff. He holds a BA in Acting & Directing from Texas A&M University—Commerce and is an Honors College 2018 Cohort Alumnus. Mr. Chaney is incredibly excited to return for his fourth year at Lion Theatre Camp as the 2024 Associate Camp Director!

LTC 2024 will start to accept registration and deposits Friday, March 1st; both are needed to reserve your spot. Registration information and guidance will be live at www.liontheatrecamp.com tomorrow morning at 8AM.

Deposit is $400 to reserve your spot and registration will run until May 1st. But don’t wait, go ahead and reserve your spot ASAP!
