Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States.
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, commemorates the day in 1865 when news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Texas, resulting in the freedom of approximately 250,000 enslaved people. While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863
The Emancipation Proclamation, issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, declared that all persons held as slaves within the rebellious Confederate states were free. While not immediately freeing every slave, it was a pivotal moment in the Civil War, transforming the conflict into a war for human freedom and paving the way for the 13th Amendment which officially abolished slavery.
The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1865, abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime.
We are very fortunate to be in a country based on freedom We must reflect and remember that racism should never be accepted nor tolerated. We, at the Secret Garden, feel strongly on this issue. We are a safe place and everyone is welcomed with love and open hearts
