The 1930s was defined by Art Deco, a style that influenced design extensively— fashion, architecture, jewelry, furniture, and of course, cars. The Art Deco automobile left the box shaped cars behind and took on smooth streamlined forms with flowing curves, and enclosed headlights and integral trunks. Lush interiors reflected the features of contemporary jewelry, and textiles.

2024 marks the 70th Anniversary of a car often described as one of the most beautiful motor cars ever built. Introduced at the 1954 New York Auto Show, and based on a lightweight space frame Grand Prix car, it had a top speed of 135 mph, hit 0-60mph in about 8.8 seconds, and was the fastest production car of its time.

Chassis SFM 5R108, originally a fastback "K-Code" Mustang, was transformed into one of the 36 GT350 Rs by Shelby. Piloted by Pedro Rodriguez, it triumphed against the factory prototype GT350 R at the Southern Polar Prix in 1966, showcasing its prowess on the track. Under Freddy van Beuren's ownership, it clinched the SCCA Southwest Division title in 1966, won its class at Sebring in 1967, and secured the B-Production Championship at Daytona in 1967, cementing its racing legacy. After years of storage and restoration, it remains a sought-after historic racer, celebrated for its unique history and period-correct livery, eagerly awaiting its next chapter on the track.

See it on the show field: 1939 Bugatti Type 57C Cabriolet in the style of Corsica. ModaMiami’s Open Season: European Classics collection shows the substantial advancement in mechanical technology in the years leading up to World War II, and the new breed of high-performance sports cars that emerged. Fast and lightweight, these cars offered enthusiasts the thrill of spirited open-air motoring. And such was the speed and handling, little, if any, differed from production models and their racing siblings.

The Bugatti Type 57, known for its blend of luxury and athleticism, received enhancements in its second-series iteration unveiled at the Paris Auto Salon of 1936, including the 57C and the 57S models, both offering improved performance features. Chassis 57838, delivered to Bugatti's London agency in 1939, received a two-seat roadster body by Vanden Plas. Despite changes in ownership and restoration efforts over the years, including a new body constructed in 2004, the car retains its original crankcase and embodies the pinnacle of Bugatti's engineering and style. This Bugatti Type 57C, with its incredible performance, style, and provenance, illustrates the greatest virtues of motoring’s most esteemed manufacturer.
