Cortland Opera House

Cortland Opera House Home to the Bazetta-Cortland Historical Society and used as a rental hall for community and social functions.

The Historical Society resource center is located on the lower level of the opera house and is open to visitors on Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm. Built in 1841 the Cortland Opera house was originally home to the first Methodist Church in Trumbull County. The building has been moved twice from it's original location on the west side of Mecca St. The first move was to the site of the current Methodist C

hurch on High St and in 1879 it was turned around and moved to it's present location facing Park Ave. After being used for plays, school functions, and later as a Grange Hall and extra Sunday School space for the Methodist Chruch the building fell into disrepair. On January 21, 1987 the Opera House was purchased by the Bazetta-Cortland Historical Society. Over the years it has been lovingly renovated and restored. Over the last 20+ years central air-conditioning has been added along with a full-service kitchen and in 2012 the building received a new roof, gutters and siding. The Opera House is available to rent for many different kinds of events, including: graduation open houses, weddings, receptions, showers, etc.

Rose Melnick Medical Museum
Presented by: Cassandra Nespor
Cassandra will be telling us about the Museum and sharing information about some antique medical instruments and treatments.
The Rose Melnick Medical Museum was founded in 1985 by Youngstown radiologist Dr. John C. Melnick. It was Dr. Melnick’s dream to create a museum that would cultivate an interest in medicine and promote medical history among the students, physicians, and public of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. With the grand opening of the Museum on October 15, 2001, his dream became a reality.
The Museum is named in honor of Dr. Melnick’s mother, Rose Melnick, who inspired him to pursue a life in medicine. It is in Melnick Hall on the Youngstown State University campus, a facility that was dedicated on June 8, 2000. The Museum houses thousands of medical artifacts consisting of instruments, equipment, and research materials documenting the history of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing with a local focus.
The Museum displays permanent and changing exhibits on the history of medicine, offers lectures on various medical topics, and serves as a research facility and gathering place for the medical community and the public.

I have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people these last six years, and I've especially enjoyed our return renters. Thank you all for making my job easy!

If you need to rent the hall in the future, please call or text Maribeth at 330-219-1488

Merry Christmas everyone!
