Just as my new office is feeling settled, Iām taking off to the UK for my annual family vacation. Iāve gotten my last orders out and closed the online shop ā it will reopen on Thursday, December 5th, with some new Winter Solstice offerings. I also have two pop-ups scheduled in December, so youāll be able to come shop with me in-person in Whittier on Friday, December 6th and in Lake Arrowhead on Saturday, December 14th. Save this if you live in California, because you probably live in a wildfire zone. š The smoke outside from the Line Fire š„ is atrocious, and although weāre aggressively filtering the air via our HVAC system and additional air purifiers, thereās still some smoke getting into our lungs and weāre all feeling the effects. Iām not one of those herbalists who are anti essential oils- I absolutely believe that EOs they have their time and place, especially during acute situations when there just isnāt time or the resources for whole-plant applications. This is an excellent time to support our lungs via essential oils- diffusing them is a great addition to drinking soothing teas and taking tinctures. Right now weāre diffusing Eucalyptus Radiata (although all eucalyptus varieties are good!), Ravintsara and good old Thyme!
Our Ribbon Cutting with the Chamber of Commerce last Thursday was so much fun! Huge thanks to the board members (and fellow local business owners!) @encompass.shop @hearthandsage @littlebearbottleshop for making this such a special event! We are also grateful to the media representatives who came, and especially to all our family and friends who were there to support us and remind us of the INCREDIBLE community that we have here in Crestline, California!

I get asked a lot how I design without floral foam. Truthfully, I learned how to create strong armatures about twenty years ago when I was FIRST studying floral design. The flower studio I trained in rarely used foam (except for events), so I really learned solid design techniques from the beginning. And today, itās like the golden age of non-foam structural enhancements- there are a MYRIAD of tools available for the designer who has long relied on foam but is trying to go environmentally-friendly. Even vintage-style flower frogs are back in production! Most of the time, I rely on my stemwork to create a strong foundation, but sometimes a tool is needed- like for looser designs in larger-mouthed vessels. In those cases, I pull out my vintage frogs. Iāve got over a hundred of them from years of collecting, and they are my favorite. Hereās an example of how easy they are to use!
