We opened up the storefront windows! To help keep the musicians warm, well ventilated and to see how far we can stretch this season. Jay Rodriguez @jrodbk and Mutha Flower at “Capture the Movement” photo exhibit were up for the experiment. @capturethemovementnyc
We learned the tragic news that Jay played today for one of his mentors, Bassam Saba, who died from COVID yesterday.
Bassam Saba of Lebanon is a world-renowned virtuoso, multi-instrumentalist, and leading figure of Arabic music. Please do check him out.
The music is bittersweet, as we mourn the loss of such incredible figures to the virus. Thank you Jay and all the musicians who came today. What a special moment.
Stay safe and see you tomorrow (1-5pm) for the final day of the exhibit and an amazing lineup of artists. Excellent work putting this together Shawn! @handlebar_batey
And thank you to all the photographers!

Rumba and Plena with Kikiriki Biquey, Sept 6th.
The rain didn’t stop us, at least not for the first 45 minutes. Was beautiful to see people not budging under their umbrellas. Every event seems to bring some new surprise: “the Sawman”, 89 years old, who lives around the corner.
Thank you @bulla_en_el_barrio and @musamusicnyc for bringing a spirit that made us not only joyful, but proud to be living here in Brooklyn, in this thing together. Carving spaces that we want to see and be a part of.
