Global Fat Bike Day was good to us. No rain and 20 riders total. We raised $1,000 for the RI Community Food Bank! Check went in the mail tonight. Not bad for something we put out there on Wednesday afternoon.

We ate pizza and drank some beers, but most importantly we got to see how many bikes fit in one porta john.

Big thanks to Pibb Richard for donating some paintings to the raffle!

Hey nerds! This Saturday is Global fat Bike Day! We’re hosting a ride from the shop, meet at 10:30, roll out by 11:00. We will have a few ride leaders, we’ll cruise from the shop to the Blackstone River Bikeway, thru Chase Farm then over to LW. Expect a 10-15 mile ride followed by some beers and maybe pizza or whatever back at the shop.

There will be a raffle for the RI Food Bank. We’re asking you make a $20 donation, this gets you entered in the raffle. There is no charge to ride. There will be stuff from ANVL, One Up, Surly and other stuff as well as some of Pibb’s artwork.

What else are you doing on Saturday? If you want to try out a fat bike we have three Wednesdays available to ride. Small, Med and Large. Let us know if you’d like to ride one so we can reserve one and let others know what’s available.

It’s crappy out but we’re keeping busy building up some Surly Wednesdays! We will have a run of bikes built, small through large, for demo rides over the next few days.

The Wednesday is a fantastic fat bike and all around trail bike to boot. These make a nice switch in the “off season” when you don’t want to ride that fancy bike in the wet and nasty weather. They’ll also liven up those same old trails that you ride with 150mm of travel all the time.

Behold! A Surly Bridge Club, shop build, in large for your perusement if you find yourself in need of such a vehicle.

This fine steel urban assault machine is perfect for lurking behind abandoned shopping malls as well as down by the river with your idiot friends. Pop some knobby tires on it and pass through your local singletrack on the way to your next meeting. Connect up some dots on a map on the way to work, or school, or wherever you go. You do leave your house, right?

What’s that you say? “What the f@ck is urban assault and why would I be doing it? I live in the suburbs fool!! I have no beef with the city”.

Well, in that case you can use it for more urbane adventures. Say, riding to church and hitting the links over at Bushwood on a lazy Sunday. It’s the perfect companion for all things both transport and sport.

If anyone is up for a bad idea on/off road ride this Sunday post here. If we get a crew together we’ll roll out from the shop around 10:30. Gravel bike or mtb is cool. There will be some “gravel” some actual gravel and roads. We may hit a brewery depending on the route. By that I mean we’ll most definitely hit a brewery.
