The nation’s blood supply is under significant strain, and all blood types are needed, especially platelets and O-positive and O-negative blood. This summer has been particularly challenging - donations have decreased due to schools being out and many families on vacation, combined with disruptions from heavy flooding and Hurricane Beryl.

Accidents, emergencies, surgeries, and medical procedures tend to increase during Summer, making the need for blood donations even more important. By donating blood, individuals can directly contribute to saving lives and helping patients in need!

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and our community’s blood supply have been significantly impacted by Hurricane Beryl, which made landfall early July 8, 2024.

Many blood drives throughout the city were canceled, and several donor centers are temporarily closed due to power outages, further hindering our on-hand blood supply.

Collecting and supplying blood for our area hospitals remains our top priority. All blood types are needed to help treat patients in area hospitals. An adequate blood supply is crucial to better prepare us for when disasters like this occur.

All CFISD schools and facilities will be closed again on Wednesday, July 10.

Our maintenance, operations, and facilities teams have done a tremendous job assessing damage, cleaning up facilities, and preparing them to welcome back students and staff; however, we are continuing to struggle with the restoration of power at the majority of our schools and facilities.

We will continue to update you daily. Thank you so much for your continued patience during this challenging time.

Impacted by ? The Office of Commissioner Lesley Briones, Precinct 4 is opening a distribution site near Cypress at the Radack Community Center tomorrow, July 10 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Both the Radack and Weekley community centers are open today and tomorrow (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.) as cooling centers for those needing relief from the heat.
