REFORM & CONSERVATIVE Jewish couples choose to do the circling tradition at the ceremony in a more EGALITARIAN way, where the bride circles the groom 3 times, the groom circles the bride 3 times and they both circle each other one time.

WHAT IS THE VEILING OF THE BRIDE AT A JEWISH WEDDING?

The veil is a symbol of MODESTY according to the Jewish faith. It emphasizes that the inner qualities of the soul and character are more important than the outer beauty. Rebecca in the bible covered her face when she saw Jacob her groom.

The biblical story of Rachel and Jacob- Jacob worked 7 years for Rachel’s father to win Rachel’s hand in marriage. The father substituted his older daughter Leah for Rachel by covering her face. It took 7 more years for Jacob till he could marry Rachel, whom he loved.

The rituals at a Jewish wedding ceremony don’t end with the recessional. The newly married couple retreats to a private room and spends a short time alone in” Yichud”, which means “together” in Hebrew. Then the couple proceeds to the wedding feast. The “Sheva Brachot” – seven blessings are repeated after dinner and optionally each night for a week at celebratory dinners with family and friends.

We are experts in planning Jewish weddings, and we can bring your vision to life. Schedule a consultation with us today 972-672-3163 [email protected]

The CHUPPAH

The bridal canopy is a multifaceted symbol: It is a home, a garment and a bed covering. Its openness recalls the tent of the biblical Abraham, a paragon of hospitality, who kept his tents open on all sides so that visitors would know they were welcome. The tabernacle built in the desert to house the presence of God is described as a bridal canopy. The huppah (also commonly spelled chuppah) is a symbol of God’s presence at a wedding and in the home being established under the canopy. It was said the divine Name hovers above it, sanctifying the space below.

Ariella and Harel described their vision as romantic, tasteful, classy, fun, and relaxed! They wanted to incorporate burgundy, light pink, tan, and champagne colors. They loved subtle decorations and wanted a unique wedding with “lots of character that Screams… it is OUR wedding!”

“We could not have made the wedding of our dreams for our daughter without Ruth’s help. Her commitment to our vision was complete and she was instrumental in picking fantastic vendors to help with so many aspects of the wedding, organizing our tasks, and keeping us on track.
On the wedding day, I didn’t worry about anything because I had Ruth and her team to ensure it went smoothly. We had a complicated event because we tied a whole weekend of events around the wedding, and Ruth helped us with all of them. But the actual wedding day I think was the day I appreciated Ruth the most! I enjoyed my daughter’s wedding and we heard from so many people that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. We could not have done it without Ruth. Thank you, Ruth!!! We have the most beautiful memories now - and your professionalism and work ethic made it all possible.”

Traditional Judaism dictates the giving of the ring by the groom to the bride in the presence of two witnesses formalizing the marriage. Jewish law requires the ring to be precious metal, have some value, be unadorned by stones and not have any decorations cut out of it. At Conservative and Reform Jewish weddings both the bride and groom exchange rings in an egalitarian approach.

Since 2004, Weddings and Events by Ruth has been specializing in planning Jewish weddings, including supervised full Kosher weddings. With over 20 years of experience, owner and a certified wedding planner, Ruth Spirer is known for her expertise in planning Jewish weddings of all denominations and knowing the ins and outs of the Kosher events’ requirements.

"I am trying to plan a kosher wedding in Dallas. My fiancé and I live in Chicago and are struggling to understand the logistics of some of the places that do kosher catering.
I was planning on interviewing wedding planners after I picked a venue; however, my parents are the messengers between the venues and us and there is too much miscommunication, so we are shifting gears. I have heard raving reviews regarding your work , especially with kosher weddings and wanted to set up a call to understand your experiences with different venues and discuss potentially helping us get organized since we are remote"

We offer an initial complimentary consultation. Call us - 972-672-3163 so we can plan your memorable lifetime event!

Ketubah Wording
While some ketubah are true works of art, the important part of the ketubah is what it says. As a couple, you will be signing this document so take the time to find a ketubah with text that reflects you as a couple and is also approved by your officiating Rabbi.

What happens before the Jewish Wedding Ceremony?
At more traditional Jewish weddings, the Kabbalat panim is a pre-ceremony where the bride and groom sit in different rooms or areas. They guests greet them and often enjoy some light — or not so light refreshments. Some brides and grooms who are more observant fast on their wedding day until after the ceremony.

As boutique wedding planner, I will be with you all the way from engagement to the end of your wedding day and I will guide you throughout the planning process.

Chuppahs come in many shapes and styles. They can be clear acrylic frames, wood frames, or metal frames. According to the Jewish tradition the top of the chuppah needs to be covered by fabric or you can use a family owned Talit, a prayer shawl. You can cover the posts with floral or fabric, and depending on time and location, the flowers can be repurposed to be used during the reception.

Check out Hoop Event Rentals for more ideas on what you can do for your wedding chuppah. https://loom.ly/2zHd20c

What to Wear to a Jewish Wedding?
Like most weddings, the dress code for a Jewish wedding can be influenced by location and time of day. At many Jewish weddings, men wear kippot (skullcaps), and they will most likely be provided at the wedding. In some circles, you may see women wearing kippot too. Women at more traditional Jewish weddings wear skirts or dresses that fall below the knee and they cover their shoulders or elbows, in even more traditional circles. Sometimes, women wear wraps or jackets that cover their shoulders just for the ceremony.

This is the wedding of Ellie and Zach, food was a big factor, oh and the fun groom’s cake.

“Ruth is amazing!
There is only one word to describe our wedding: perfection; and it was all thanks to Ruth and her team. Being an out-of-town couple, it can be challenging to articulate what you want and visualize how every piece comes together. Ruth understood and captured every possible detail we imagined.

When it comes to planning a Jewish wedding, Ruth’s expertise and knowledge is unbeatable. We can't thank her enough for making our wedding weekend celebration a huge success!”
