Fun fact: The term "tying the knot" comes from an ancient Celtic tradition where couples' hands were literally tied together during the ceremony.
I love capturing unique traditions that make your day special. One of my favorites is the Celtic hand-tying ceremony, also known as handfasting. It's a beautiful, ancient ritual that I've had the joy of photographing multiple times, including on Shelby and Bob's wedding day. Scroll to the end to see their glorious golden hour portraits! 🌄
Picture this: you and your partner, face-to-face, hands joined. I'll be there to capture the moment as a cloth, ribbon, or cord is gently tied around your hands, forming a knot that symbolizes your union. It's a powerful visual representation of two lives binding together. Whether you're planning a traditional wedding, civil partnership, commitment ceremony, or vow renewal, I'd be honored to help you preserve this meaningful moment. Have you considered incorporating this tradition into your special day? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Got a team of folks who hate being photographed? Ha! I can change their mind 😎
•
hired me to do their team photos a few weeks ago and we started EARLY in the morning ☀️. I know for a fact most of the folks didn’t even have their first cup of coffee in ☕️. Was I kinda scared to talk all sort of s**t to make them laugh? Sorta. Did it work though? ABSOLUTELY.
•
IG won’t let me post all the wonderful humans I photographed for this project, but here’s a handful of the “Eww, I hate being photographed. I don’t even know what to do!?” sayers 🤭 tell me those magnificent creatures look like they hated the experience 😏😉
•
Got an office full of people who loathe the “office photo day”? Bring me in, and I’ll make them thank you later. 😉
Rain? Did not care.
Almost all the trails and gardens are closed? Nope, still didn't care.
It's all muggy and blah? NOOOPE - we still did our session! 😆
The Arboretum is mostly closed due to the storm damage and they don't have power (or last I checked, they didn't) but we still got us some cute photos 🥳
A little rain didn't stop from Caitlyn and Yosef's Dallas Arboretum engagement session photographed by Dallas wedding photographer Tara Arseven.
Engagement photos aren't just a trend but a valuable part of your wedding journey! Here’s why:
Get Comfortable: Think of this like a workout for your wedding. Get to know your photographer, learn how to let go in front of the camera, and have fun!
Save the Date: Use photos for announcements.
Memories: Who doesn't like to look at photos and think to themselves, "Awww, we're so freakin' cute!" ;)

Bruh 🥴 Can someone send Texas some mood stabilizers? She is going crazy with 80 mph winds, breaking trees, destroying electric lines... Throwing a massive tantrum.
We've been waiting for our session today with Caitlyn and Yosef, and I was so excited to meet them in person finally. For a split second, it started raining like crazy while we were still driving to the Arboretum - but I think Zeus got my telegraph because the minute we parked and stepped out of our cars, the rain stopped - giving us a short time to take photos.
Sadly, the storms damaged almost all the prettiness at the Arboretum, and most places I usually use for photos were blocked off with caution tapes... But this didn't stop us from getting some cute photos of them. 💓 Though we are totally planning on going on round two for the photos 🤭 *wink wink* I'm looking at you, Caitlyn! Can we please, pretty please, go on a road trip together? 🤭 🗺️ 🚗
Did you know there are different styles of wedding photography? Here’s a quick guide:

If you met me at a party, the first thing you would probably notice is I’m well over 6' tall in heels and look like a badass with my all-black outfits as well as a bunch of tattoos. But it takes more time to know that I’m such a hopeless romantic, a softy at heart, and a mama bear. One of my friends had described me as her pitbull - "From the outside, you're intimidating and scary, but from the inside, **you're just a squishy baaaaabbbbyyyy full of love** (Looking at you Cortnie Dee Photography - I miss you!)

Surprise proposals are one of my favorite things to photograph, especially when reactions like Kylee’s flow 🤭
•
Sam found me online and got in touch with me to plan his proposal to his girlfriend. The second he said “I want to propose at the Big Bend!” I was already sold, packing up my stuff, ready to leave 😆
•
After pulling some strings and re-arranging my schedule, we were all set.
•
On the day of, we took off early in the morning with my friend and were at our hotel right on time to meet with my couple. Our story was that I supposedly am local to Big Bend and Sam booked us to do some pretty photos around the national park.
•
As it got closer to the sunset, I was kinda side-eyeing Sam, “dude you gonna ask or what? 👀” and then it happened. Kylee was caught off-guard and she couldn’t gather herself for a good 10 minutes 🤣🥰

I love that our photographer/client relationship evolved into friendship and I get to do all sorts of cool s**t with you two: first, your engagement session at the Big Bend National Park, then your awesome pagan wedding, and now this: your anniversary session under the full solar eclipse
This is what 40 years of partnership and love looks like 😍

Yesterday I got to hang out with , and their beautiful fam for photos - of course I had to get a few photos of each couple.
•
They told me it’s been forever since they last posed for portraits but this is what came out of the first 30 seconds I spent with them 😍
I had the best afternoon with this wonderful family. I definitely got my dopamine boost 😌🥰
•
Can we manifest stuff on IG? Yea? Ok here it goes:
• I have lots of clients who own lots of furkids that book me to do their furamily sessions. I at least book 4-5 of them weekly and get to kiss noses of cats, dogs, horses, pigs, cows, goats - whatever animal there is out there that has the possibility to be loved on - EVERY•SINGLE•DAY.
• I am around animals so much that Nyx and Ae**us often give me side eye - but I love on them too regardless.
• Oh and I work with wild cats - all the big kitties 😍
Ok, thnx, kiss, bye! 💋 ✨

That being said, please do book me to do photos with your animals - I offer sessions both at my studio and on location 🥰 I love animals so fu***ng much - it makes my heart happy to connect and spend time with them. 🥰
We did a thing! 🥳
Kaivan apparently hates having photos done (big surprise!), and we came up with these in a 15-minute session 🤭

What's the number one thing you look for when searching for the perfect wedding photographer? Is it their style? Or their pricing? Or personality? If you've been looking for a photographer, you've probably realized that it can be a little overwhelming at times, and I'm here to help you with my five best tips on finding the perfect wedding photographer!
1. Always ASK TO SEE FULL GALLERIES from their past work. As photographers, we can't just post full client galleries on our website (umm, hello, hosting capacity!), and we have to pick and choose what to display - but seeing a full album is going to give you the best idea of what the photographer is capable of.
2. AUTHENTICITY. It's 2024, and I strongly believe "give all the honey to attract all the bees" is an out-the-window marketing tactic. It's important that the photographer sets correct expectations, gives you the details as they are, and does not try to fluff what they do, who they are, or what they offer. You don't want to have one of those situations of "Expectations vs. Reality."
3. Always do your research thoroughly and LOOK THEM UP ONLINE. What are other clients saying? Do they have a legitimate website? How many years of experience do they have? How many weddings did they shoot as a lead?
4. GET TO KNOW THEM! Believe it or not, it 110% affects how you feel about your photos and how you look in them, whether you like your photographer or not. Having that personal connection is going to make everything EASIER for you and your partner - regardless of how much you don't like taking photos 🤭
5. Make sure to ALLOCATE YOUR BUDGET according to your expectations. Your wedding photographer is an investment - one who will not only give you pretty photos that'll make you smile every time you look at them - but also someone who will be by your side the entire day. You want to make sure they are capable of giving you what you want, what you need - and an experienced photographer is not going to be cheap, unfortunately. How important is photography to you? Make a list of your priorities and maybe ditch the wedding favors most people will likely forget to take home.
I hope these little tips help you with your search. If you'd love to talk more about hiring me as your wedding photographer, then shoot me a message! I have a few available dates for 2024 and would love to send you more information to see if we'd be a great fit!
We will *instantly* hit it off if you enjoy or you're like any of these things:
1. Love horror movies (Has anyone seen Marianne on Netflix?)
2. Love unplugged weekends full of artsy activities, reading - pretty much anything that makes your heart happy. (You must check out the GetAway cabins!)
3. Love diversity and exploring new cultures, food, music
4. LOVE LOVE LOVE animals
5. Love stand-up comedy
Okay, anything from that list we could strike up a fun conversation about?! Tell me in the comments!

How do family sessions go with me you ask? Mmmm... Like this :v I had photographed Sarah and Diego's wedding back in November 2018 and ever since we've been in touch. We were talking about getting together again, after that one game night we had after their wedding - but then y'all know what happened in 2020 *barf - sh*tty year!* So yesterday, we FINALLY got together for their family photos, while Sarah's brother Alex was also in town. Y'all... I had a blast. This is exactly why I've been able to keep doing what I do for almost the past 15 years and why I love doing it. Because people like these folks <3 Like... Kelly was the best MoB to work with. I still remember how she gave me a huge hug (pre-covid hehe!) and then told me "Oh Sarah has told me so much about you - it's so nice to finally meet you in person!" and we kept exchanging winks, smiles - even a little dancing all day. I knew yesterday was going to be a blast! I even drove to BFE for them - and despite how much I hate driving in DFW, I would do it over and over again hah! Thank you guys - seriously! Thank you for having me over for dinner, thank you for all the laughter (I'm not going to lie, it was very much needed after such a busy year!) and I can not wait to get together for y'all for just sh*ts and giggles :v <3 Lots of hugs and kisses - happy holidays!! <3
