We enjoyed an early morning visit to the New Covent Garden Flower Market where sadly we could look but not buy!🙁💐 Then on to a Hop On Hop Off Tour Bus. It’s a great way to get an overview of London. Looking forward to Wicked tonight!

We took a train out of London to Windsor Castle and toured the State Apartments and St. George’s Chapel where Queen Elizabeth is buried. It is also the chapel where Meghan and Harry got married. I’d love to have seen the gorgeous flower arch that was done around the outside doorway.

After an hour flight from Edinburgh to London we spent the afternoon walking for miles seeing beautiful landmarks and ending with a play.

The Royal Yacht, Britannia, served the Royal Family for over 44 years traveling over a million nautical miles. Decommissioned in 1997 it was the last royal yacht.

Touring the Holyrood Palace made for a delightful morning. It has been the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland since the 16th century. Part of an abbey from the 12th century remains. Photography was not allowed inside, so I’ve just shown the outside and the gardens.

Stirling Castle, childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots, was our first stop on the drive to Edinburgh. Then on to Kelpies, a man-made structure built in 2013 reaching almost 100’ high. Our hotel in Edinburgh welcomed us with beautiful flowers in the entrance and pretty plaids in our room…so fitting for Scotland.

We had a beautiful drive through majestic mountains in the Scottish Highlands on the way to Glencoe. The weather was perfect for a hike around the lake where we happened on a bride and groom just after their wedding. The kilts are made of each family’s tartan (plaid).

This morning we drove from Ambleside in the Lake District north to Culzean Castle (home of the Kennedy clan) near Ayr, Scotland. It’s sitting with a beautiful view out over the water. The National Trust has owned it since 1945. How wonderful that it still has all its beautiful furnishings!

Dinner at the oldest inn in England then the next day started with a 1,000 year old oak tree in Sherwood Forest (of Robin Hood fame). The largest grand home in England and Europe, Wentworth Woodhouse, was our next stop. Built in the early 1700s, it is 600 feet wide and twice the width of Buckingham Palace. Huge rhododendrons graced the gardens.

Our day started in Oxford with Christ Church College(Harry Potter in the Great Hall?) Then we toured Magdalen College where C. S. Lewis met with Tolkien. We finished the afternoon ambling down a footpath (the Queen Anne’s lace was taller than I am) to Lower Slaughter. All of England is in bloom!

More of Christmas past…

It was so fun helping my sister with her tablescape for a wonderful birthday celebration dinner. Her farmhouse is charming and cozy…the perfect backdrop for Christmas. She wanted the look to be “rustic Italian” so we started with her antique carved candlestick and added lots of fresh greenery and oranges for a pop of color. The painting you see at the end was painted by our great grandmother in the late 1800s.

Great engagement party last night at a friend’s house. The bride’s favorite color is blue, so we used a lot of blue hydrangeas from the bushes in my backyard. Congratulations Ally and Jackson…we are happy for you two!

Adventure going to the FloraHolland flower auction this morning. It was so organized…importing from 60 countries and exporting to 140!!

Just thought I would share a video of the rest of the room from my post last night. We love the view of the lake and even if you’re in the kitchen cooking you still have that pretty view and still feel like you’re “with” everyone in the room.
