Thank you to one of our Coaches, Caleb Hall, for his dedication to not only our community but our country as a whole, and for raising awareness on such an important day in history.
We are grateful and lucky to have such great role models like Coach Caleb involved in our program.
United States Marine Corps Sergeant Caleb Hall spoke to Upper School about patriotism and about his call to serve our country. He reminded our students that every time they hear the national anthem, or each morning when we say the Pledge of Allegiance, to think about the freedoms we experience everyday and the people that fight for those freedoms.
We are grateful for Calebs service and we remember those who were impacted by the events of September 11th.
Caleb was a geospatial intelligence supervisor with the United States Marine Corps for nearly nine years. He served on a combat tour in Iraq and is proud of his country and his team for their sacrifice. Caleb is our Facilities Director, the varsity wrestling head coach, football assistant coach, and father to Jonathan Benavides ’30.
We welcomed some new members into the Gulf Coast family for the weekend at Deep South National duals and had such a great time. We had some crazy matches and memorable experiences doing so. This was the most fun I’ve ever had at a duals tournament and hope we can continue bonding and competing with all who came in. Good job Gulf Coast, let’s continue to grow this sport and elevate the level of competition out there!

Some of Gulf Coast’s youth wrestlers headed up to Gatlinburg, TN this weekend to compete with some of the best across the country at Bootleggers National tournament. 🙌🏽💥🤼
We are bringing home a combined 5 national placements, 7x all American status, an 8U duals champion title and a 10u duals runner up title!
We are continually putting Alabama on the map as a force to be reckoned with 💪🏽 Don’t sleep on us!!

12 days until the Mizzou Crew makes another trip to Gulf Coast to host an amazing wrestling camp! These wrestlers impressed us so much last year. Not only do they have impressive wrestling accolades but they are well-spoken and effective at teaching! We have athletes of all ages and skill levels already signed up! Noah reached a top 3 ranking in the nation during the regular season, Connor has graduated and is helping the coaching staff at Mizzou and Alan has been a great contributor to the successes of the High School team he is helping coach!

Gulf Coast walked out of the tournament this weekend with 3 Fargo qualifiers! These were the most competitive brackets I have seen in a single tournament all year. State champs and placers in every single bracket.

Gulf Coast Wrestling went to Swamp Donkey this past weekend to compete in Freestyle, Greco, and Folkstyle. We had high school, middle school, and youth wrestlers competing in one, two, or all three styles of wrestling. This was our first time competing in Freestyle and Greco. The wrestlers came to battle and we found areas to continue improving. Overall a great weekend! Way to go Gulf Coast!
We our super excited to announce our annual Mizzou Camp has returned! Three D1 Mizzou wrestlers coming to our club to run another amazing 2 day camp with 4 sessions. Successful day for the Gulf Coast Wrestlers today at Nuway Nationals in Michigan! Liam took first place in his age bracket and wrestled up, winning that bracket also! Roman won his first national title and placed wrestling up an age division. Dominic returns an All-American! 3 National champ brackets coming back to Alabama. Great job wrestlers!

We had one wrestler today at Battle of Bama but he represented well! 7 state qualifiers and a state champion in his bracket and he battled through to end up second! He had to defend his title in a true second match and got the job done. He displayed the mental toughness, resiliency, and never give up mentality that we value so it is no coincidence he performed so well!

A lot of fun updates from this weekend …
Firstly, Today was our official start of the Wrestle Gulf Coast off season for both youth and our high school wrestlers. We have a ton of talented kids in the room and expect even more as the months go on. We are excited to put the work in and build up these wrestlers to be the best they can be. 💪🏽
Secondly, we attended the Battle on the Bayou 2024 tournament which is always a fun one. We had a GREAT turnout and couldn’t be more pumped up for the kids.
We left with a greater than 70% winning percentage and had the following results:

Announcement ceremony for the bantam state finalists last weekend at the AYWO State Tournament. Gulf Coast had finalists in 45lb, 50lb, 55lb, 60lb and 75lb weight classes. They lined up as a sea of green and shook hands with their opponents. We swept 45, 50 and 55 with 1st place winners and had 60 and 75lb runner ups. Our boys sure did put on a show and represent the clubs talent all weekend. 💪🏽🔥
