✨What is the story of The Historic Peter Allen House, the oldest home in Dauphin County? Let’s take a look. ✨

Article from April 24th, 1940 - Peter’s Road

“Away back in the days when the first John Harris was just getting settled in his conquest for the fur trade of this part of the lower Susquehanna with the French traders, Peter Allen was in the beaver skin business too, and combined trading and a tavern at the foot of the Dauphin County mountain now bearing his name.

The building he erected still stands, the oldest and Dauphin County.

Travelers of 200 years developed a road from an Indian Trail over Peter’s Mountain noted for beautiful views, as well as convenience, but also certain rolling cast characteristics.

Now word comes the State plans to improve it from Dauphin to Peter’s house.

The upper end from Matamoras to the forks of the road to Halifax was rebuilt last year.

The section from the northern base of the mountain can be bettered. But the lower section is scheduled and we can all rejoice.

The road abounds in legend and improvement would cause many Harrisburg folk to traverse its storied lengths with more comfort.” - Harrisburg Telegraph (Harrisburg, PA)
