As an audio engineer, Daijohn Gonzalez says he produces his best music while being in the studio and sharing ideas with others.
As a professional boxer, his improvement comes from training in a good gym with quality teammates.
This week, Gonzalez made a serious commitment to boxing, signing an exclusive management contract with Brandon Bea of BeAwsome Management.
"I definitely like having Brandon as my manager," Gonzalez said. "Our personalities match really well and he does a great job taking care of me. I'm blessed to have so many good people around me. Signing this contract is like a dream come true."
Daijohn Gonzalez is 2-0 as a pro boxer, but he is anything but typical. He has over 100 songs and 50 videos on the internet and has a large online following from all parts of the country.
When the 28-year-old Davenport resident isn't making a video featuring young women dancing at a mansion, he's at Beasly Boxing Club working on his craft.
"DaiJohn is one of those fighters that continues to impress," said Extreme Maximus Boxing co-promoter Scott Tolzmann. "Most people think he's had a lot of amateur experience, but truth be told, he only had 11 bouts, winning all but one. He's really learning on the job ... I've seen vast improvement in him already. It's a real testament to the hard work he is putting in with his team."
Gonzalez, along with BeAwsome fighter Robert Calvin, signed a promotional contract with Extreme Maximus Boxing this week.
Gonzalez took the long way to Davenport. He was living in Seattle, Wash., and moved to Orlando, Fla. Needing a change, his brother, Charon Spain, told him to give Iowa a try. He's been in Davenport for over 10 years.
"There are many intangibles with DaiJohn... he's very marketable and has a tremendous online following, mostly from his music," Tolzmann said. "But now he's quickly starting to pick up fans from his boxing."
Gonzalez will fight next on Extreme Maximus Boxing's next event on June 5 at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds.
