When I was a kid, I used to gather and arrange wildflowers and give them to friends, teachers and neighbors. I can still remember the smiles and gratitude I would receive when I gave someone flowers. Throughout my life, I always loved sending someone flowers to brighten their day. In 2003, I decided to learn more about flowers, the care of them, and how to design exquisite arrangements of every type. I attended the American International Academy of Floral Design in Chicago, IL. Under the tutelage of master designer Al Mendoza, I received my Certification in Floral Design. Since then, I have worked in several flower shops and served as a free-lance designer. Over the years, I’ve been very lucky to have been mentored by several super-talented designers and friends…they know who they are, and I’m forever grateful. Also being a professional musician for nearly 40 years, I realized that having dual careers in flowers and music go together beautifully! Many times I find that designing floral arrangements is very similar to creating and improvising at the piano. I’ve even designed a special collection of floral arrangements that are inspired from some of my favorite tunes from the American Songbook! Having my own flower shop has been a life-long dream, and is finally becoming a reality. Currently, I work out of my home studio, which allows me plenty of freedom to personalize my work and services. I love being able to treat my business and clients on a very personal level. It makes it even more special. Working from my home studio also helps keep my overhead costs low, which allows me to keep my prices lower than my competitors - without sacrificing an ounce of quality. In the near future, my plans are to open a floral design studio, shop and jazz cafe. Can you see it now?? A cool venue where you can pick up beautiful flowers, candles & gifts AND sit and enjoy a delicious coffee drink, local brew or cocktail - all while listening to familiar jazz classics. I’ll even have live jazz musicians on the weekends! You can be guaranteed yours truly will make his way to the piano as often as possible! In the meanwhile, I look forward to every opportunity to personally serve the Quad City area with high-quality flowers and creative designs…for every occasion. Yours Truly,
Freddy the Flower Guy
