Instructions for forcing your holiday amaryllis. 1. Select a vase or vessel to force in. 2. Place pebbles, stones or gravel in the bottom for drainage. 3. Add potting soil. 4. Place the bulb about 1/4 covered with soil. 5. Top with moss. 6. Keep moderately moist and place in a sunny warm window. Enjoy!

How to start your amaryllis for winter forcing. Southern hemisphere amaryllis take about 5 weeks to bloom once you “wake” them from dormancy. They do not require a cooling period and can be forced into bloom anytime. What a great way to bring some color and fresh blooms into the house during the winter months. Here is what you need to know: 1. A vase or vessel 2. Pebbles and potting soil 3. An amaryllis bulb or three, of course! 4. Water and a warm sunny spot indoors.

Once upon a time there was a farmer.

Once upon a time there was a farmer named Kelly (who didn't know she was a farmer yet) with a small patio, a few flower pots, and some lettuce seed. One day the farmer grew herself a salad. Watching her food come from tiny seed to the dinner table was like the magic of a fairytale. Before long she was feeding her family strawberries, tomatoes, herbs, squash, even eggs, that she had raised in the backyard. She grew as much as she could, in every available space to grow. The farmer had a dream to share the magic of her salad with all the land. So she did, and she called it the Fairytale Farmette. Thankfully that is not the end of the story...

Welcome to the Fairytale Farmette. Happily ever after for me is bringing the great food that I've been growing for my family to eat to your table too. I believe in small, local, and sustainable. I also feel a strong ethical responsibility to leave the space that I'm growing better than the way I found it. One of the best ways to meet those goals is to design all the parts on the farmette to work together to eliminate the need to bring in outside inputs like chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Being small allows me to get to know my customers too. Please don't hesitate to contact me by email at [email protected] or drop on by the farmette stand to see for yourself why Small is Beautiful.
