Last week, DCC staff got their hands dirty at The Foodbank, Inc. Greenehouse! 🌱 We learned about their hydroponic system, urban garden, and composting programs, and helped harvest one of the 14 kinds of lettuce grown on-site. Nothing beats the office fluorescent lighting like a day in the sunshine, supporting a community resource! We look forward to next time!☀️🌿

Excited to share our latest sustainability effort showcasing our partnership with Minnick Family Farm!
Each month, an average of 100 lbs. of food scraps and food waste from the DCC is donated to Minnick Family Farm, and used to feed their animals. Less waste + Fat, happy pigs. We’d say that’s a win-win! 🐷 🚜 💚

Check out the recap from our day trip to Jamestown, Ohio, where we took a tour of the farm and learned more about sustainable farming practices. We also couldn’t resist feeding the cows and chasing ALL the sheep… Can you blame us?

Hey Dayton!
Our main entrance will be closed Monday, 7/22 - Friday, 7/26 due to our ongoing renovation.
If you plan on visiting during this time, keep an eye out for new directional signage that will lead you to the temporary entrance.

Before > After!
Our main entrance has taken a hit over the last nine months, but the end is in sight!

What we’ve done so far:
1. Construction of the new terrace and vestibule entryway
2. Replacement and redesign of exterior concrete pavement
3. Addition of a new drop off lane (perfect for events!)
4. Installation of new planter beds, precast benches, and site lighting

What’s left to check off:
1. New pedestrian walkway across 5th street from main entrance (hooray for safety!)
2. Landscaping, light fixture, and bicycle rack installation
3. Completion of pavement replacement
4. Installation of new Swiss glass railing on the terrace, along with final finishes and lighting
5. Completion of the vestibule, including fully-functioning automatic doors

We’ve come a long way since September 2023! THANK YOU for your patience as we work through our $45M renovation. We’re so excited for you to see the finished product!

Diving into the dynamic world of STEM at the Big Hoopla STEM Challenge this past weekend was an absolute blast!
This event was filled with engaging experiments (shoutout Mister C), numerous hands-on activities (Wright State University, Air Camp, Tenet3) and, of course, HOOPS.
We can't wait to see what creativity is sparked next year!
