SPARE TIME FAMILY FUN CENTER

Bowling in Decatur has enjoyed a long and interesting history. In the early days The Citizens Bank Building had 4 lanes in the basement; White Way Lanes had 6 lanes; St. John’s School had 2 lanes, St. James Church had 4 lanes, in 1906 Brinkmeyer’s center was opened with 3 lanes. In 1930 Decatur Parlors opened with 10 lanes and in 1931 Hill’s Lanes opened with 12 lanes.

After World War II bowling saw the greatest expansion imaginable. In 1946 Hill’s, with 12 lanes, was purchased by Paul Schaefer and became Schaefer’s Lanes. In 1950 Eldorado Bowl opened with 20 lanes. Also in 1950 The Bowl opened with 16 lanes. In 1963 Pla-Mor Lanes opened with 28 lanes. In 1967 Mt. Zion Bowl opened with 16 lanes. Finally, in 1978 Spare Time Lanes opened with 32 lanes.

In 1998 Dale and Sandy Schuerman sold Spare Time Lanes to Gary Haines in and it is now the only bowling center in Decatur. Spare Time Lanes consists of 40 state of the art Brunswick lanes, Video Poker Room, Family Arcade, Pro Shop, Snack Bar and Lounge.
