Our Story

As I study to become a CERTIFIED FLORAL DESIGNER... I’ll be sharing the beauty, history and community events of Deer Park & surrounding areas. I look forward to sharing pictures and historical information about "our beautiful home"... past AND present!

My Grandfather (Clarence James Fortner "Jim") traveled by covered wagon with his parents from So Dakota and settled in Usk, Washington (near Flowery Trail Road). After being married, he and my Grandmother lived near Waitts Lake where my Dad & his twin sister... along with their three older siblings were born (eventually nine total Fortner sibs...Joyce, Dorothy, Ted, Ellen, Isaac & Doris, George, Judy, & David). The old 40 acre property in Usk is still in the family. I find it so amazing to reflect on hearing stories about this area... Grandpa (as a child) playing with native Indian children, hitchhiking on the rails to Valley & Deer Park for necessary supplies... work... winter weather whoas, etc.

I was born and lived in So California until my early teens... when my Dad talked my Mother (a devout and deeply rooted So Calif girl) into moving our little family to Eastern Washington (to get away from the hippies!!... HaHaaa!!!) We settled in Chattaroy in June of 1966. One of my very strong memories of that time is seeing my Mom's amazement of all the beautiful BUTTERCUPS creeping amongst the pine trees... she raved of them many times in her weekly typed letters to family far away. I feel truly blessed to still call this area home.

Welcome to BUTTERCUPS OF DEER PARK! I look forward to knowing you :) ~> Freda (Fortner) Hoskins
