As a kid, I had amazing pizza in France at Italian restaurants and hole in the wall tarte FlambΓ©e restaurants. With half the weight of a neopolitan style pie, this epically thin crust is usually done up with bacon, onions, and a combo of creme fraiche and fromage blanc. We made some as well with margarita toppings. Love this little ooni oven! Really fires πŸ”₯ up!

When your mother-in-law turns 65, your father-in-law turns 70 AND it's Korean Lunar Year?!...you treat them out to dinner with a view, a variety show, and thank them for all of their hard work. They are the real OG's who immigrated here from South Korea, started their business in Wicker Park, and raised three kids knowing little to no English. Mr. and Mrs. Kim eventually ended up learning two languages (English & Spanish) all on their own & I'm so honored to call them my family ❀️

Dolsot Bibimbap: a Korean rice dish where bibim means "mixing" and bap is cooked rice. It is served in a bowl of warm white rice topped with sautΓ©ed, seasoned vegetables, gochujang, egg, and sliced beef. Mix, stir together & voila.

My wife loves it served in a traditional Korean hot clay pot "dolsot" as it continues to cook while keeping the dish EXTRA hot...until the very last bite!

A NEW dish is available with Chez Mikey! Tteok-galbi! "Tteok" means rice cake in Korean, and "Galbi" means ribs. It was given this name because the process of cutting, marinating, and shaping the meat is similar to the process of making a rice cake. Tteok-galbi was a beef dish in Korean royal court cuisine. It is said that the dish was created because it wasn't befitting for kings to gnaw on galbi-gui (grilled short ribs). It is just as tasty as traditional galbi, yet more tender!

This was a welcome surprise to try for the first time visiting Jeonju Hanok Village, South Korea. Jeonju is known as the food capital of South Korea and has preserved its traditional architecture mixed in with modern-day living. We are inspired to bring a little piece of Jeonju to Chicago!
