Defiance Prop Floppers R/C Flying Club #2866

The Defiance Ohio Prop Floppers radio controlled model aircraft club is located at 21487 Kiser Rd.

The original Defiance, Ohio Prop Floppers model aircraft club was formed in 1950 and was active in a period from 1950 to 1968. The group was involved progressively in free flight, control line, and towards the last years radio controlled came into use and was explored by some members. There were about 13 members in the original group and they met regularly at Arnold Shilperoot's hobby store, the H

obby Den in downtown Defiance. Membership fees for the club were $2 a month and at that time the club was not chartered by the AMA. The club flew their aircraft at the Ron Shafer farm on Route 15 at Christy Road. Former members tell of them putting on exhibitions of control line and the like for local events at the drive in or at the airport and at Kingsbury park.. Starting in the late 70's a loosely knit group of modelers started building and flying Radio Controlled models. They flew at the Defiance College and then at the VFW park in the late 80's
In 1989, the group became an AMA chartered club ( #2866) under the direction of Kent Clingaman. It was decided that the club would take the name "Prop Floppers" to continue in the footsteps of the original group. The club moved to it's former Powers Road location in 1992 and flew there until a few years ago when they had to move due to the expansion of State Route 24. That's when the City of Defiance was gracious enough to help us find the location that we fly at now on Kiser Road. In July of 2020 Jeff Eitzman became President and myself, Jody Shaneyfelt became Vice President. I am looking forward to the future of our club and hope to help it grow for our Defiance area residents to enjoy.

Please help us get a new paved runway.
Over the years our fabric runway has been vandalized and has wore out to the point that we need a new one.
We want to get away from the fabric that constantly needs the staples holding it pushed down and the roughness from people walking on it and leaving foot prints under the material.
With a paved runway we can fly off it year around and will have a nice, smooth surface to fly off from without worrying about damaging our aircraft's landing gear.
It will also make our club more inviting to new pilots wanting to learn to fly.
Please help us meet our goals so we can have a great facility for everyone to enjoy.
