1. DICTATE YOUR DAY: I think we’ve all been to a wedding where we waited HOURS before the reception began. I am very aware that photography is not the entire reason for your wedding day. While photos are important, I won’t be dictating the day as if the photos are the only reason we gathered together. If I need more time (which is rare with the way we create your timeline!) I will ask you and we will respect your wishes and how YOU want to spend your day. 2. TAKE ON OTHER ROLES: I love my role as your photographer. Watching and capturing details and moments takes time. While I love to help when I can, if you ask me to coordinate the decor set up, getting bridal party members lined up or MC your reception, you are taking away from my ability to photograph your day. I unfortunately cannot be multiple vendors for you. That is why I make sure to give you a local vendors guide to make sure you have access to amazing vendors who will make your day go smoothly! I am happy to document your day and want to make sure I commit myself to the task I was hired to do! 3. MANUFACTURER FORCED MOMENTS: We want you to experience your wedding day as your authentic self. We find it very disingenuous to make you act in a way you normally wouldn’t. So we won’t be trying to force you to look or act a certain way just for photos. We will try to make you laugh and snap you smiling. We will capture the happy tears. But if those don’t happen, that’s okay too. We love when you are being yourself. This December we celebrate 14 years in business. Documenting the lives of families and couples is a feeling I have never found anywhere else. I’ve been photographing some of my clients since before their Senior year and they now are married with children! Honored and privileged are not words strong enough to describe how I feel getting to create documented memories for my clients. Watching so many different lives has taught me so much about the human existence and where joy is truly found: in the arms of the people we love. Thank you for giving me this life. 💛

Not to worry, I absolutely love my career and being an entrepreneur is apart of my identity at this point. But it’s not for the faint of heart. I once showed up to photograph a wedding only to know the next day I would have to take my father off life support. I smiled like my heart wasn’t shattered. I was 34 weeks pregnant and in pre-term labor photographing a wedding. I kept going as if I was fit as a fiddle. I have shown up to sessions after bawling my eyes out because life felt like it was falling apart for one reason or another. We, entrepreneurs, are a different breed. We do it with a broken heart all the time and you’d never know it. Because that’s our job. (But we would love it if you remembered we are humans with feelings and could not be more thankful when you are so kind and loving towards us because that isn’t always the case!) Cheers to all the humans that keep going despite the struggles we face. 💛

As I’ve traveled, I’ve picked up spaces that made their mark on me. One example was a beach in Bimini. I was finally starting to mentally unwind on the third day of vacation. The water was so blue and I floated feeling light and carefree like when I was a child. Another example was this stream hidden away in the Smoky Mountains. Jon and I wandered as I cried, being so overwhelmed by life. We walked just to get out of my feelings and we came to this spot. This bank was so quiet I could hear only the water and our breathing. I sat on the rocks and stared at the water. I let my mind relax. I have reflected on these two scenes and wondered why I felt the way I did. I came away renewed with hope. I realized I allowed myself a moment to feel, without guilt. To do nothing productive but as a means of finding sanity. Please, find this space for yourself. Allow yourself a moment to be. To feel. To process. Let yourself be human. You are not a machine. 💛
