We're thrilled to announce the remarkable preservation achievements recognized by the Ohio History Connection’s 2023 State Historic Preservation Office Awards, held on Nov. 4th!

These awards honor the individuals and groups whose passion and dedication have safeguarded Ohio's architectural and historic treasures, connecting us to our rich heritage. State Historic Preservation Officer Diana Welling presented the awards during a special luncheon at the Ohio History Center, acknowledging the vital role historic places play in strengthening our sense of community.

🏆 Public Education and Awareness Award:
Congratulations to the City of Shaker Heights Government, Shaker Historical Society, and the Shaker Heights Public Library for their outstanding work on the Warrensville West Cemetery Master Plan. Their efforts have significantly increased public understanding and awareness of historic preservation in our community!

🌳 Preservation Merit Award & Public Education and Awareness Award:
Congratulations to Keith Berr, Austin Finishing, Berea Alumni Association, and the Berea City School District for their combined efforts in preserving and restoring The Tree of Knowledge sculpture at Berea-Midpark High School. Their dedication not only preserves an important piece of history but also educates future generations!

Congratulations to the Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery Foundation for restoring the Green Lawn Cemetery, Chapel in Portsmouth, Tom Gillespie, LDA architects, Inc., and Liberty Development Company for the rehabilitation of the Rhodes Mansion Apartments in Cleveland, and the Delaware County Historical Society and Midstate Contractors for The Barn at Stratford's rehabilitation in Delaware. We are excited to share, our newly remodeled Dressing Suite!

Mark & Maria Pizzi, met us several years ago and began volunteering with the Meeker Homestead Museum, here beside The Barn at Stratford. Still madly in love after 45 years, they enjoyed overhearing couples like many of YOU coming through the property sharing your plans for a beautiful life, starting with your wedding day. They chose to make a contribution that would enhance the experience of a couple on their wedding day and chose to focus on the anticipation of getting ready for the big moment in our dressing suite.
If you know this sweet couple, then you know they are still flirty and in love after all these years. We couldn't think of a better way to honor their contributions than to name the newly remodeled dressing suite after them.
