With the 25th South Florida Garlic Fest launch next weekend, I thought I'd send the recipe for the ORIGINAL Gilroy Garlic Festival's garlic bread. We were honored to be trained by the founders and were like sister cities for many years until the founders passed away.
A classic and beloved garlic-infused dish that captures the essence of the original Garlic Festival's flavors:
Ingredients:
1 French baguette or Italian bread loaf
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Slice the baguette or Italian bread loaf in half lengthwise, creating two long pieces.
In a bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered bread (if using).
Place both halves of the bread on a baking sheet, buttered side up.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the bread is toasted and the garlic butter is melted and bubbling.
Remove the garlic bread from the oven and let it cool slightly.
Slice the garlic bread into individual servings and serve it warm.
It's a crowd-pleaser with a rich garlic flavor and a hint of heat from the red pepper flakes, perfect
for garlic lovers! 🥖🧄
