If you’ve ever wondered why wedding photography often comes with a higher price tag than engagement or family sessions, the answer lies in the amount of time, effort, & expertise involved in capturing 1 of the most significant days of your life. Let’s break it down:

⌚️Time Commitment & Details:
Wedding Photography: A full wedding day can last 8–12+ hours of shooting, often including pre-ceremony prep, the ceremony itself, reception ,etc. Photographers spend hours editing thousands of photos to ensure each 1 looks perfect. Weddings require extensive planning & coordination with the couple, vendors, & venues. Photographers also scout locations, create shot lists, & prepare for a variety of lighting conditions.

Engagement + Family Sessions: Typically last 1–2 hours, with fewer images to edit. Details are simpler, with fewer moving parts & less logistical preparation.

📸Gear & Expertise:
Wedding photographers bring multiple cameras, lenses, lighting setups, & backups to ensure nothing is missed or lost. They must be experts at capturing everything from candid moments to formal portraits in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. Not to mention multiple photographers depending on the wedding!

🫶🏽The Stake Are Higher:
Weddings are once-in-a-lifetime events, meaning there’s no “redo” if something goes wrong. This level of responsibility requires a professional who can deliver consistently under pressure.

Why it’s worth it:

Let me tell you about a wedding that could’ve gone off the rails - but didn’t.

✨ Why Your Wedding Day Timeline Matters – And How I’ve Got You Covered! ✨

As the bride was getting into her dress, everything was going smoothly—until her mom went to zip her up, and the zipper broke. Cue the panic! 😱 For a while, they tried to fix it, but when we realized the zipper wasn’t salvageable, her mom sewed her into the dress. (Yes, sewed!) The entire ordeal took at least 20 extra minutes.
Here’s the thing: because I had built extra buffer time into the timeline just in case something like this happened, we were still able to capture all the wedding photos she dreamed of. I knew exactly what moments were most important to her, and because we had plenty of cushion, we didn’t have to cut anything short.

First looks are an opportunity to calm your nerves, take a moment, create a memory, & relish your time alone with one another. 

I promise a first look does not take away from that first glimpse during that ceremony walk. Instead, that 1st look simply allows you to catch your breath before the love of your life makes their way to you!

It’s a New Year, but some things never change: I  can’t wait to meet all of our couples and families who are looking for their wedding, engagement, and/or family photographer! 🤍💍

I’m Hannah, the owner and lead photographer of H Hawkins Photography! Team Hawkins  was born out of my love and passion for photography and it’s a family owned and operated business with my husband Andrew and I at the forefront! 📸

When’s the perfect time for family photos? Spoiler alert: it’s not about the light—it’s about your kids’ moods! 👶☀️

Here’s the truth: While morning or evening light (golden hour) is dreamy for photos, the best time for family photos is when your kids are at their happiest! For my kids, that’s usually 9–11 AM after they’ve fully woken up, had a good breakfast, and are ready to explore. For others, it might be later in the afternoon after nap time.

The only time I typically recommend avoiding is 11 AM–2 PM when the sun is the harshest, but even then, if that’s when your kiddo is happiest, I’m all in. After 12 years of photographing families, I’d rather work with tricky light than a tired or cranky little one!

To all my amazing couples and families, I am truly honored to have been a part of your big day or captured some of your precious milestone moments this year. Your trust and support mean the world to me, and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you. 💕

This season, I’m reminded of how blessed I am by our little family and the joy we share. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! 🧡

This year, my heart is especially full of gratitude for family. Our kids bring so much joy and love into our lives, even as they stretch and grow us in ways we didn’t know we needed. 🫶 I’m so thankful for the blessing of having both Andrew’s and my parents nearby—they help with the kids often and are such a constant source of support. And to our amazing church family, who encourage and challenge us in all the best ways, we are so grateful for you.

Today on the blog, I’m sharing all the details of Maryland and Rob’s incredible wedding day! Their love story is one of faith, intention, and devotion, and every moment of their celebration reflected just that.

One of the most meaningful parts of their day was the presence of their pastor, who traveled all the way from Orlando to officiate their ceremony. This gesture was a beautiful representation of Maryland and Rob’s journey together. The two initially met online, but their very first date in person was at her church—a setting that speaks volumes about their shared values. Rob’s willingness to drive hours just to meet Maryland at such a significant place says so much about his character and the depth of his intentions.
