In the western Pacific Ocean lies the Mariana Trench, renowned as the deepest part of the world's oceans. Its deepest point, known as Challenger Deep, extends to about 36,070 feet (10,994 meters). The trench is named after the nearby Mariana Islands. Victor Vescovo set the world record for the deepest manned dive into the trench on April 28, 2019. He descended to 35,853 feet (10,927 meters) in his submersible, DSV Limiting Factor, surpassing all previous records and enhancing our knowledge of the trench's extreme conditions and the unique marine life that inhabits it.
