Stephen Howard Walker, 64, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at home unexpectedly but peacefully.
On November 25, 1958, Stephen was born in El Paso, Texas to loving parents, Stephen and Roxanna. He spent time growing up in Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Denver. He started his first company, Starland, in 1983; the same year he married his beloved wife, KathE. He inherited his two sons, Michael and Stephen, at the same time. The family spent the next several years selling Star Trek merchandise all over the world and running Star Trek conventions in Colorado primarily, but also Montana, South Dakota, and Australia.
In 1992, Stephen and his family embarked on their next adventure running several commercial Haunted Houses all over the Denver metro area. The first haunted house was right next door the Starland store and was called Alien Terror. With success the first year, many more haunted houses were created including The Asylum, The Catacombs, The 25th Hour, Slaughterhouse Gulch, and the most successful haunted house, The 13th Door. During this time, Stephens family grew with the addition his daughters in law, Treecy and Jesse, and grand kids, Stephanie, Kari, Daniel and Gage.
In 2007, along with Haunted Houses and the Starfest Sci-Fi Conventions, Stephen participated in the third family venture, Mile High Trailers. This business grew very quickly, and the family eventually moved the operation to Kiowa, Colorado where it had a lot more room to expand. Stephens family also grew more during this time with the addition of his great grandchildren Hunter and Blake.
Stephens early interests included computers, running in the Boulder Bolder and playing table tennis. In 1993, Stephen was the Colorado State Table Tennis Champion. As a dad, he enjoyed waterskiing, wakeboarding, 4 wheeling, snow skiing and scuba diving with his sons and grandkids and especially enjoyed vacationing at Ridgeway State Park. He also had many pets and loved playing with his pot-bellied pig, Ziggy. Later in life, Stephen enjoyed golf and even managed to get up on a surfboard in Hawaii! He also loved playing Fortnite with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Stephen was very active at his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a Bishop, he presided over the University Hills Ward for seven years. He loved having the opportunity to know all the members of his ward and serve them as a spiritual leader and friend. For the last 9 years, Stephen served as the First Counselor in the Stake Presidency of the Denver Colorado Stake. He was often assigned to speak in different wards in the Denver area and he loved sharing personal stories and relating them to the Gospel.
In addition to his immediate family, Stephen is survived by many brothers and sisters and an extensive extended family.
