It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Joseph Docksey, Director of the Lamont School of Music from 1988 until his retirement in 2011.
From 1997-2003, Director Docksey represented the University of Denver as the “owner” in the design, programming, and construction of the $70M Newman Center for the Performing Arts which has become renowned worldwide for its beauty, acoustics, technology and practicality. Mr. Docksey’s role in holding and attending over 1000 meetings and watching over the construction of the Newman Center was paramount to its success.
Joe was one of the most significant directors in Lamont’s 99-year history. His unfailing commitment to DU’s school of music left an indelible mark. No words can truly capture Joe’s influence or how deeply he was admired.
Perennial Friends of Chamber Music Denver favorite Jeremy Denk is your guide on a trip through centuries of music written by or inspired by female composers. Okaidja Afroso's latest project, 'Jaku Mumor' – dives into his cultural roots by collaborating directly with indigenous Gãdangmé fishermen to share the full artistry of their a cappella singing and chants in his music and film. This program comes to the Newman Center in 2 DAYS, combining percussion, guitar, dance, and film. It will have you moving in your seats!

CAVE is a very new work (2022) by choreographer Hofesh Shechter specifically for the Martha Graham Dance Company. This high-energy work emerged out of an idea by international dance star Daniil Simkin. Daniil was interested in taking the dance that is part of the techno club scene to a new level and finding a way to integrate choreographed movement into a Rave style event. See the results when CAVE is performed at the Newman Center this Friday and Saturday.
