Denver's Civic Center Park

Denver's Civic Center Park Park conservancies are an outgrowth of private citizens wanting to do more for public spaces than government can do on its own. Gaining steam across the U.S.
(276)

Located at the crossroads of government, culture, commerce and community, Denver's Civic Center Park is a historic 12-acre urban oasis with a spectacular architectural backdrop that serves as the region's premier public gathering space. over the past three decades, conservancies of varying sizes and models have been established out of concern for parks that government entities had neither the capa

city nor the resources to maintain, program or enhance adequately. Conservancies are private, non-profit, park-benefit organizations that partner with government but raise money independently to invest in parks under action plans mutually agreed upon with their government partners. Key examples include the Central Park Conservancy, the Battery Park Conservancy and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.

At Civic Center park, we are proud to provide opportunities to showcase the work of creatives in our community. People don't often think about the vision behind the floral displays in the park, so we want to shout out Cally Dittman, one of the talented horticulturists that worked on our beautiful flowerbeds.

"For the 2024 flower designs, I wanted to explore the idea of color theory – the study of colors that work well together and what emotions they imbue. I mapped out the beds until I achieved the best color combinations. I also played with different textures, heights, and flower shapes," said Cally.

We hope to continue to provide opportunities for people in our community to showcase their creative visions for the benefit of everyone who visits!

What's it mean to be a "steward" of Civic Center Park? For Civic Center Conservancy, it means activating this space in ways that bring communities together and enrich the lives of people in Colorado and Denver. Look at the last year alone! We've had incredible events at the park like Civic Center STARGAZE, Romeo and Juliet in the Park, Civic Center EATS, Women Powering Change, Denver Pride, Dia de Los Mu***os, and more. Across these events, hundreds of thousands of members of our community came together to eat, celebrate identites and cultural backgrounds, appreciate visual and performance arts, and learn about things that interest them.

Colorado Gives Day is coming up soon. We are so grateful to the community for supporting us and each other with their generosity. You can be a supporter at coloradogives.org from now until December 10th. And let us know in the comments your favorite Civic Center Park memory from the past year!

Meet John, a participant in Civic Center Conservancy’s WORKS program, made possible by our donors! Though he started out working with us for a sobriety program, John has now found purpose in keeping Civic Center Park a well maintained space for all.

"I’m really proud to lead a crew of people who are committed to keeping this park sparkling and beautiful. You don’t always get to work as a collective toward a single goal like making the park a great place to be, and I’m lucky to be a part of that," he says of his work this past summer.

We are proud that our programs provide opportunities while keeping the park clean and beautiful. Want to support programs like these? Link in bio.

Colorado Gives Day giving is live NOW, and you can support Civic Center Conservancy's mission with a donation today. Your gift has twice the impact, as PCL Construction is again matching the first $10,000 in donations. Civic Center Conservancy is dedicated to activating the park to benefit the Denver community. We have supported more than 40 people transitioning out of homelessness and more than 40 young people in improving their employability through our programming. We also empower underrepresented communities by providing partnership for events like DĂa De Los Mu***os: Remembering Our Ancestors Through Art and AAPI Culture Fest. Between events, our SPARKLES volunteers and WORKS crews have put in over 3,000 hours of maintenance in keeping the park clean, safe, and beautiful. We couldn't do it without your support. A heartfelt thank you to everyone that came out to DĂa de los Mu***os at Civic Center. We come together as a community to honor our Ancestors and loved ones who have left this world. From the food trucks that nourished our bodies, the vendors and healers that that shared their crafts, the community orgs that built altars, the performers that entertained us, and the volunteers that set up the art installations and ofrenda, the day was truly magical. A special thanks to all the amazing Catrinas and Catrines, who posed for many pictures. ÂĄMuchĂsimas gracias a todos!
