Hello, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Hong and this is my partner Zach, we are the new owners of Agora Event Center. We want to thank everyone for being patient with us while we transitioned ownership of the space. We’re excited to be here for you and all your future event needs!

We haven't posted in a while as our kids have kept us busy. Our boys grew up with the events center and could give a tour for us, but as they became busier with their respective sports, we've had to step back significantly with our time and attention to Agora.

We want to share that Agora is going through a transition with new ownership; however, it's staying in the family.

It's been a pleasure working with all of you over the past 7 years and a joy to provide a location for so many to celebrate and gather with family and friends.

We are so thankful for all our connections and wish you all the best as we step away from this business.

These are the types of posts we don't love posting, but need to post anyway.

In the last couple of months we opened our doors back up and started booking for events once again. It's been great for us to provide a space where your friends and family can gather once again.

With this; however, we've become increasingly frustrated and disappointed with the lack of respect and care that some of our patrons have shown during their rental — by not putting furniture back where it belongs, leaving spills and messes unattended to. Simply put, if you spilled chocolate milk or dropped a bowl of cereal at your home, would you clean it up?

We expect the same to be done when you rent with us.

We are a family-run business, who too, are working to provide for our family.

If this is something you simply cannot do, and help us care for our facility, we kindly ask that you find another location to have your parties.

We want to continue to provide a space for those looking to gather. We follow the golden rule, and hope you can too. Treat others the way you want to be treated — which, also, treat another's place as if it were your own.

In light of the recent news on easing of restrictions in Iowa, we know many of you are anxious to celebrate with family and friends.

Though restrictions are lifting in the state, we don't feel like now is the right time to open up our business again.

We understand that this may be a disappointment, but we want you to be able to celebrate with your friends and family, healthily and safely — and right now that's a promise we can't guarantee.

Recent FAQs we’d like to help answer.

➡️ Yes! We are open.

➡️ If you book an event, we are asking all parties to sign a COVID waiver and ask you practice responsibility and safe social distancing. You are holding an event at your own risk and are liable for your party members.

➡️ Our cleaning pecedures have changed. We ask that you clean up all of your trash and pick up any residue on the floor, but DO NOT tear down furniture after use. We want to ensure anything touched gets property sanitized.

➡️ Due to this, there will be a 24 hour wait period before we allow our cleaners in. Note showings will be a little less flexible as we want to make sure our space is cleaned and sanitized properly.

➡️ Please understand that we are a family-run business and have high risk persons in our family.

➡️ Please DO NOT ask us for extra chairs. The chairs we have will be the number you can use to allow for safe distance of your attendees.

➡️ When you come for a showing, please wear a mask.

➡️ If you can avoid paying in cash we’d greatly appreciate it and accept all credit and debit cards.

We appreciate your cooperation as we try to make this a safe environment for all.

We appreciate the support and patience of all our customers. We have to send our sincerest apologies for those who have been trying to contact us — we learned today that our phone system has not been working properly, and learned of many unanswered text messages.

To keep you all updated: We have been working on contacting all parties who have booked events in May and June, as the Governor’s proclamation discourages gatherings of more than 10 people in Polk County.

Though our business is not listed as a specific business category in the proclamation, we feel it is in our best interest to cancel or ask to postpone all events until gatherings can happen once more.

In addition to this, we want to make sure we are able to purchase proper sanitation solutions and equipment so we can assure you, and our staff, stay healthy.

It has definitely not been easy for our husband and wife business, and we appreciate all of your support thus far.

Rest assured, refunds will be given. We do apologize if it has taken longer to do so.

Agora COVID-19 Update:

As we all know, we are facing a global pandemic.

Following CDC guidelines and the recommendations of our governor, we can't in good conscience continue to allow parties, with more than 50 in attendance, for the the rest of the month, through April 2020.

We understand this may be an inconvenience for you — and it will definitely affect our family-owned business financially — but the health and well-being of our patrons is the top priority.

Within the next week, we will be working to contact all parties who have signed contracts to discuss options.

Our customers’ health and safety is our top priority.

Rest assured we will be taking extra steps in ensuring all of our equipment, furniture, and fixtures will be cleaned and sanitized with extra caution.

We will NOT be scheduling appointments for showings or contract signings for two weeks. If you have interest in booking, all of this can be done virtually (and has always been an option) as long as you pay with a credit card. Call us at 515-657-7756 or message us through Facebook for inquiries.

Lastly, due to toilet paper being a hit commodity these days, we will only be stocking our bathrooms with the two rolls allowed in our holders.

As a husband and wife team, we started this business as we wanted to offer the community an affordable place to gather with their loved ones.

We work hard at providing the best possible service to our customers and strive to accommodate any concerns and needs when renting our space.

Now, forced to run this business alone, I still try my hardest to provide the same service.

I’d like echo my sentiments to our Agora customers. Thank you for your patience — your business and referrals has been truly appreciated!

A Message from Leng (President & Owner):

I wanted to take a quick moment to say, “thank you.”

THANK YOU to all of our clients who continue to support Akili Design & Marketing Services. Your trust and support in the services we provide has meant so much to this small business owner.

It helps to provide a roof over my family’s head; it helps put food on the table; it has helped our family experience the world; most importantly it has helped my family get through one of the hardest times in our lives.

In November 2018, my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor that sat on many of his critical nerves that control balance, vision, hearing, coordination, and speech.

It’s been 7 long months — a 15 hour surgery, 5 weeks in the hospital, 31 radiation treatments, and rehabilitation. In the last 7 months I’ve seen him relearn how to talk, eat, and he is still working on relearning how to walk. After much uncertainty, I am happy to say he is on the mend.

Without your support — and the work of my amazing team — my family was able to, and continue to, get through this trying time.
