2024 is the year of seasonal ingredients! Each month, I will pick a different featured ingredient, and we will learn about the ingredient and discuss different ways to incorporate that ingredient into our cooking. November's featured ingredient is...PINEAPPLE! 🍍

Here's the things you should look for when buying a pineapple:
🍍 Check the bottom. It should be a nice shade of yellow, there may also be some green parts visible as well. If it's mostly green it's not ripe enough. If it's too dark of a yellow or a burnt orange color it is too ripe.
🍍 The base of the pineapple should smell like a pineapple or have a light sweet, fruity smell. If the smell is too strong it is overripe and won't taste good when you go to eat it. Sometimes when pineapple is cold it doesn't have a smell so if it has the other signs of being a ripe pineapple it may just be too cold to have a smell.
🍍 A ripe pineapple should feel heavy and firm but the base should still have a little give to it. If it's too firm it will be hard as a rock.
🍍 Despite lots of suggestions on the internet to ripen a pineapple, they don't continue to ripen after being picked.

Dinner Delights - May 31 Space Update

May has been a BUSY month and I wanted to share a space update with everyone! We started demo on May 9th and took out a wall and the office. The plumbing and HVAC are done. Electric is almost done. The new wall is up and has drywall. Now we have to skim-coat everything to make the walls look so much better and paint. Then I get to finish buying equipment and get everything organized for inspections and permits. I am hoping for an early August open. Fingers crossed, it continues to be a relatively smooth process! I have the best general contractor that has worked so hard to keep everything on track and moving along.

Happy National Strawberries and Cream Day! One of my favorite hacks when making these Strawberry Shortcake Shooters is to put the homemade whipped cream in a zipper bag. It's easy, disposable and when you zip it shut helps you avoid the whipped cream from sneaking out the top of a pastry bag.
