# # # About "A Great Day in Harlem"
The original "A Great Day in Harlem" photograph, taken in 1958 by Art Kane, gathered 57 of the greatest jazz musicians of the time, standing together on a stoop in Harlem. Legends like Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, and Count Basie were immortalized in one frame, capturing a rare moment of unity and artistrry in jazz. This photo has since become a symbol of the enduring legacy of jazz.

09/15/2024

Music is life and for Zania Alaké, it’s her safe place. Upon one listen, the soul in Zania’s voice will take you through every decade and leave you spellbound.

Creating from real experience is an art Zania cultivated from a young age. When she didn’t always have the words, she’d start with a beat and play for hours on the keyboard making music. Loving every minute of it, she continued until she got the confidence to share it. When people told her how relatable her music was, she knew she had something special.

Despite being vocally trained, Zania’s confidence in her voice didn’t match her incredible talent. She found security in singing background for artists like Tyrese, Gwenation, Phil Perry, Kimyana Reese, & Darnell Kendricks. It wasn’t long before she realized she didn’t belong in the background.

Zania’s confidence blossomed beautifully as she performed at open mics helping her realize it was time to stand on her own as an artist & sing her own music.

Today that dream has been realized as Zania’s soothing, soulful songs draped in beautiful melodic tones on her forthcoming EP will take you on a genre-bending, time-traveling journey. Her sound has been touted as classic, sophisticated & sexy with a jazzy twist.

Zania’s message is a testament to real-life inspiring real music.

“While working on my EP, mommy-hood came into play and put a temporary halt on my career. However, things happen exactly when they should because it made me stronger and broadened my creativity. I want to speak through and for women. My music is about our love lives, happiness, sadness, struggles and perseverance. We are a force. No one can tell our story better than us.”

Zania Alaké’s debut single Tempted is about being with someone while thinking of someone else. Tempted will be on her forthcoming EP “Finally” and is out now on all digital platforms.

He also directed and conducted the jazz opera *Forgotten*, written by *Steve Jones*.

Beyond his musical accomplishments, Bill is deeply involved in civic and political activism. He has been a lifelong advocate for peace and justice, as a founding member of *Jewish Voice for Peace* and a dedicated activist with *The Palestine Office*. A staunch supporter of labor rights, Bill has been a member of the AFL and the *Detroit Federation of Musicians Local 5* for decades. His commitment to community service extends to Hamtramck, where he has lived since 2000, chairing the Hamtramck Human Relations Commission, organizing the African American Recognition Dinner, and helping re-establish the local NAACP chapter.
