A native Detroiter, Gregory Butler is currently the associate choreographer for the six-time Tony Award winning Broadway show Chicago The Musical which is currently the longest running show on Broadway and the longest running American Musical in Broadway history.

Class is geared towards beginners and will touch upon the history of this dance and a wide vocabulary of movement from the basic codified house steps/variations, to floorwork, spins, and inversions.

More about the show:

The Cowboy is a Tombstone is an investigation into American culture’s relationship to the symbol of “The Cowboy”. The play begins when Turner Jackson, a young cowboy, contracts yellow fever and dies on his way home from his first cattle drive. After death, he is met with a bombastic entertainer who attempts to guide him through the next part of his “journey”: understanding his historical and mythic significance. The Cowboy is a Tombstone is TYSMFC’s final iteration of a years-long endeavor researching and making material about cowboys and the American frontier. Areas of research included the cowboy as a historical and mythological figure, the cultural and political role of the frontier throughout American history, and the geological history of the United States.

For 5 years one of our founders @lauraquattrocchi has been working on developing the flower garden of our parking lot and engaging with the neighbors. Laura's says : "What motivates me is to see how much people appreciate the beauty of the flowers " Laura has given cuts of plants and seeds to many neighbors. The plants that she's growing are the plants that basically survived no watering since there's no access to water at the lot.

MONDAY MOVEMENT CLASS at Andy starting April 4th The first series of 8 classes will be offered by Joshua Bisset @shuagroup In this class we will explore means of finding ease, clarity, power and pleasure in moving and dancing. Our intention together will be to build confidence in and connections with our movement. We will explore breath, gravity, reaching, folding, momentum, making sound, and weight sharing as we seek transformations in how we move and conceive of our bodies. We will move and dance individually and in group improvisations. Experience with dance is optional and classes will be oriented to the individuals present. Mondays through May 23rd: 6:00pm to 8:00pm Cost: $10 by cash at the door, CashApp or Venmo; or $50 for all sessions. COVID: at this time mask will be optional; the instructor will not wear a mask. Joshua Bisset @shuagroup is a Detroit based choreographer and performer and has extensive experience in movement and dance techniques.
