We went up to The Pink House Tea Room & Bnb this weekend. It is owned by our friend and vendor, Just Delicious. The Tea Rooms are beautiful, some with a view of Anchor Bay.
And, of course, if you loved our quiche, which was made by Just Delicious Scones, it’s worth the drive to enjoy it again.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch and pot of tea while I caught up with Jen on all things business.

Dear Friends,
The time has come.
Fourteen East is going to retire. I am taking the plunge and closing the cafe.

It has been a wonderful 14 year run, albeit with a few bumps in the road. Opening in 2011 in the as the only truly fine coffee shop in Midtown, right next door to Good Girls Go To Paris and Leopold Books (remember?), life was exciting. Visitors from around the world stopped for espresso on the way to the .

Then came 2015-2017 when the much acclaimed streetcar route was installed, later to be called the QLine. Did I mention “a bump in the road “-as in NO road, no traffic, no parking. Nonetheless the now cafe, no longer a coffee shop, enjoyed delightful times.
The Thanksgiving Day parades were magical as we hosted the Distinguished Clown Corp, the Rosie’s marching unit, and many more. In December, was a special event on the first Saturday of the month where we worked without a breath from 5-11 followed by a staff potluck at Midnight. Such great memories.

Along came road bump #2 when the new building owners decided they didn’t want an urban cafe in the building. No problem. A serendipitous opportunity came up at the new Wayne State Mike Ilitch School of Business. I moved the cafe lock, stock and barrel to the current location in 2020. Well, you all know the “bumpy road “ of 2020!

That aside, the new location has been beautiful with all of windows and views of Downtown. The wonderful bonus has been the wildflower rain garden that I have thoroughly enjoyed helping to maintain. The garden-side patio has been enjoyed by many, even hosting a few summer concerts.

All of this will be missed, but not nearly as much as all of you. You have stood by through it all. Many of you have become personal friends. Others of you will always remain “cherry Danish guy” or “Italian sandwich no tomato girl”.

It has been a fabulous adventure. I now look forward to what’s next. Thank you all. The memories will remain in my heart. ❤️

The last day to drop in for coffee, treats and gifts is Friday, August 2nd. Open 8-5 that day!
