Today, we are excited to announce DSO’s first recording with Music Director Jader Bignamini with last week's live performance of Wynton Marsalis’s Blues Symphony to be released on the PENTATONE label. (Release date to be announced.) The recording joins a historically rich catalogue made by the orchestra and their conductors over the past century, from Ossip Gabrilowitsch's 78 rpm singles on the Victrola label to Paul Paray’s renowned LPs for Mercury’s “Living Presence” series. DSO recordings also include Paul Freeman’s survey of Black composers for Columbia and Antal Dorati’s series for Decca, Neeme Järvi’s releases for Chandos, and Leonard Slatkin’s recordings for the Naxos label, including the Grammy-nominated disc of Aaron Copland’s ballet music.

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of esteemed leader Reverend Charles G. Adams, honoree at our 2023 Classical Roots Celebration, following a long battle with illness. As the Michigan Chronicle elegantly writes in its memorial, Reverend Adams was not only a visionary leader, but also "a beacon of hope, a catalyst for change, and a guardian of Detroit's spirit" as the revered pastor of Detroit's Hartford Memorial Baptist Church. We join the entire Detroit community in mourning this loss, and our thoughts are with Reverend Adams's family and loved ones.

With a solemn wave of remembrance and respect, the Detroit community bids farewell to one of its most esteemed leaders, the Rev. Charles G. Adams. The revered pastor of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, a cornerstone of Detroit's spiritual and community life, passed away on Wednesday after a valiant...

We feel a great loss today following the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Shanda Lowery-Sachs, who passed away peacefully this week following a long battle with cancer. Shanda was a member of the DSO viola section since 2001, traveling with the orchestra for tours of Europe in 2001 and Asia in 2017, and bringing consummate artistry to the Orchestra Hall stage and community venues each week. Everyone who knew Shanda felt her strength, warmth, passion, empathy, and humor, and she will be greatly missed.
