Help us get instruments into the hands of students! Detroit Harmony's metro-wide, new or used instrument drive continues through November 16. Visit dso.org/instruments to donate and learn more.

Last week, Detroit Harmony gifted instruments to 13 students with special needs at Woodhaven High School to support their participation in the national United Sound program. United Sound removes barriers and fosters social change through music by pairing special education students with peer mentors, leading to greater inclusion in school band and orchestra programs. In the past, Woodhaven students borrowed whatever instruments were available, but with the help of Detroit Harmony, students have now received an instrument of their choice to keep forever.

"Where have I heard this before?" 🤔 Now familiar thanks to its use in pop culture, Gustav Holst's ethereal "The Planets" has captivated audiences for more than a century. Each of the seven movements expresses a mood suggested by the astrological sign associated with its particular planet.

You can hear Holst's famous 'Planets' in musical TV and movie moments like BoJack Horseman, Bluey, The Simpsons, and more! Where have you heard these iconic themes? Let us know in the comments! ⬇️

Hear the DSO perform The Planets on Nov 7–9. Buy tickets at dso.org.

Composer Gustav Holst was inspired by mysticism when writing the classical music movements of The Planets and versions of the work are found throughout pop culture, including Bluey and The Simpsons soundtracks.
