Why: the cause, reason, or purpose for which something is done
Did you notice that the Holy Bishops Council 2023 began with the great Man of God Bishop Charles Albert Wilson asking each of us, “Why are you here? What is your why?”
Bishop Simmons has been asking this of us for a while now. “Why do you come to church? Why are you interested in preaching, carrying a title, being a musician, being recognized as a praying woman, being on the Man of God’s security team, singing a song in the congregation of the people? Why do you do what you do? What are you looking for? What is the reason of the hope that is in you?”
These are extremely important questions for us to consider and, under no circumstances should be taken lightly, as there are right and wrong answers to these questions. An “accurate why” results in the ability to happily “suffer for righteousness’ sake.” While a “misplaced why” can lead to selfishness, bitterness, resentment, misunderstanding of the Gospel, rejection of the Truth and even eventual spiritual death.
To truly understand and know Jesus, we must be born again. We cannot see or enter the Kingdom of God except we are born again. And, unless we truly know Jesus, we cannot have an “accurate why;” which is a reason for serving Christ that transcends all fleshly feelings, thoughts, and emotions allowing us to deny and discipline the flesh to please God. If our reason for serving does not trump our will and way, it is not too late to receive help. It is not too late to be born again. We must be born again. WHAT IS YOUR WHY?
