“I’d like to gift my wedding dress,” she said softly. “I got married , in 2024. Do you think someone might need it? I know so many people lost everything. I want to pass on the joy of my wedding, to share this dress with its good vibes and blessings.”

I smiled, her words carrying the weight of kindness. “I’ll ask around,” I replied. “If someone needs it, I’ll let you know.”

As I walked away, her words lingered. The hurricane struck right in the heart of October—prime wedding season in WNC, when the leaves turn into a symphony of reds, oranges, and yellows. I only needed to ask once. Almost immediately, someone from Swannanoa reached out: “I’d love to have it and wear it at my wedding.”

I was struck by the resilience of dreams. So many were shattered by the storm, but here was a chance to rebuild. From one woman to another, from one wedding to the next. In the midst of loss, there is love. And in the act of giving, there is hope—a reminder that strangers can love one another deeply, even without ever meeting.
