“The Magical Mayhem Show,” a collaboration between sleight-of-hand artist John Johnson and theatrical entertainer Professor Longhair, launched in 2024 to rave reviews. The duo performed sold-out shows at The Orpheum Theater in Hillsboro, joined by guest magician Louie Lafikes and emceed by WSMI Air Personality John Michael Marty, delivering unforgettable performances. At the 2024 Blackburn College Homecoming in Bothwell Theater, the show received an enthusiastic reception, with Louie Lafikes returning, Chicago-based professional actor Randall Steinmeyer serving as emcee, and Sue (Patschull) Talkington dazzling as the onstage assistant. Additionally, their multi-day run at the St. Louis Fringe Fest was a standout success, earning them an invitation to return in 2025 as “Invited Artists” immediately following their final show.
In July, the duo were both surprised and proud that at the Nokomis Homecoming on a blistering 90 degree plus day they were able to keep an audience for a full 2 hours!
The Magical Mayhem Show is expanding to varied venues throughout 2025. Stay tuned…

An Egyptian papyrus from 2500 BCE shows a magician named Dedi performing an animal decapitation trick for the pharaoh. No need to worry, after the decapitation Dedi magically restored the severed heads. Having just performed a “miracle,” he then made a number of prophecies to the pharaoh.
