Casting Notice

Title: Firing Squad

Logline: An inmate reflects on life with his sister as he walks through his last 24 hours on earth, being led to ex*****on by firing squad.

Synopsis: “Firing Squad” is an original dramatic short in which an inmate, Beau Harlow, experiences his last 24 hours on earth before ex*****on by firing squad. During his final hours, Beau reflects on his life with his sister, Ava Harlow, with whom he has the strongest bond. His memories and final moments help to put his violent ex*****on into perspective, with themes of ambiguity, family, abuse, and grief shared throughout the film. Upon Beau’s ex*****on, we see Beau’s memories live on through Ava and are forced to sit with the realities of death and ex*****on, as well as the beauty of bonds that carry past emotional and physical boundaries and even death.

Beau Harlow: male, age 30-40. Though seemingly a tough inmate, Beau is a sentimental man with many regrets and insecurities as he nears the end of his life. He has held onto memories during his time in prison and continues to reminisce and reflect during his final hours. His relationship with his sister is his strongest bond, though built from trauma and dysfunction.

Young Beau Harlow: male, age 16-22. Young Beau is a playful but mature teenager, taking full responsibility for his sister’s safety and well-being. He is his sister’s keeper and fraternal figure. With an abusive father and cowardly mother, his sister is his top focus and priority. Though he struggles to process his unusual pressures and responsibilities and is sometimes selfish in his youth, everything else is secondary to Ava.

Ava Harlow: female, age 20-30. Ava is an emotionally avoidant woman, yet still honest and soft. She has experienced anticipatory grief for Beau, yet everything is still hitting her as hard as the first day she heard “death penalty” attached to Beau’s name. She is a married woman with a bright future, but Beau has been the closest thing to a parent she has ever known.

Young Ava Harlow: female, age 6-10. Young Ava is playful and sassy, often provoking her brother. He is the only place where she can be childlike and her true authentic self without negative consequences. Young Ava looks to Teenage Beau for safety and stability.

Chaplain: male, age 40-60. Chaplain is a gentle but firm voice during Beau’s final hours.
