Who knows what a 'Millinery and Notions' shop was? This hand-painted sign from the 1930s/40s belonged to my great-grandmother Goldie Owens, who owned just such a shop in Sussex County, Delaware.

Back then, a milliner was someone who made or sold hats, often elaborate creations for ladies of fashion. Notions referred to a wide array of small goods and sewing supplies like buttons, ribbons, thread, and pins - everything you needed for sewing and crafts.

This sign is a treasured piece of family history and a reminder of a time when things were made to last. You can find it displayed in the Prohibition Bar of the main residence here at King Cole Farm. Be sure to check it out along with a picture of Goldie in one of her famous hats during your visit!
