A Country Music Camping Adventure Exploring the Evolution of Country Music
The Choose Joy Foundation is delighted to announce their upcoming Country Music Festival, Chillin in the Sticks, which will be held from October 6th-8th at the FireBase Lloyd in Townsend, DE. This will be a weekend camping event and a fundraising opportunity to help local families displaced by house fires. On our lineup to entertain festival-goers is the talented Jovon Newman, Bryan Scar, the Humming Birds, Eastern Shore, and some up and coming HickHop stars from Alabama that have yet to be announced. Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to dance the night away to their favorite country tunes, as well as compete in fun and exciting activities, like a mechanical bull, compete in co****le and hot wing eating contests, and try their luck in carnival games in the Kid Zone with real prizes. In addition, there will also be an open air farmers market, food trucks, and VIP bonfires available for chats with the bands. Come and join us for a weekend of music, fun and fundraising as we celebrate country music at Chillin in the Sticks!
After losing her own daughter to a house fire, founder Theresa Morris is twofold in her mission. “Our events are not just a way to fundraise, but also an opportunity for our entire community to find joy together.” Choose Joy has become a rallying cry for rebuilding physical structures and spiritual foundations that sustain our community for the long term. We believe that when each person embraces their own unique purpose, we can all live in a world of joy.
Based in Delaware, the Choose Joy Foundation is a 501c3 that works to assist families for a full year after suffering the tragedy of a house fire. Focusing on those who are at the Chester Crozer Burn Unit, we provide basic needs such as clothing,food and shelter.
Choose Joy funds our work with an innovative program for event staffing. We partner with nonprofits, businesses, civic organizations, and community leaders on events that uplift local talent and positive messages. Many of our volunteers have directly experienced a home fire, now they provide the full on-site personnel for partner events as a way to give back. Our team has helped festivals, concerts, banquets, and family events be true success stories. Our program is a win-win for everyone, as we help our volunteers gain experience and build their resumes, while also providing a reliable and cost-effective staffing solution for our partners. We are proud to be able to offer our services to the community and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact.
“Chillin in the Sticks ” is our very own annual fundraiser just before a critical time of year, for our work. Too often, local charities stop programs in the final weeks of the year. While most of us will experience a happy Winter Holiday season in the comfort of our homes, fire safety during the holidays should be paramount. December is actually the leading month for house fires according to national data, with Christmas showing a 73% increase in home cooking fires over an average day.
Families displaced by fire during the winter Holidays are often left eating from a vending machine. Not our families. We are proud to be a part of the Delaware community and to provide a helping hand to those in need. Our mission is to bring joy to those who have been affected by tragedy, and to help them rebuild their lives. We are dedicated to providing resources, support, and hope to those who have experienced a house fire.In 2022, we made a huge impact in our community. We assisted 163 people who were affected by fires with food, motel rooms, clothing, and furnishings. We also sent over a thousand dollars in gift cards for gas and food to the Crozer Burn Unit. When Kent County Delaware didn't have a Toys for Tots program, we stepped up and made sure that 413 children received gifts for the Holidays. Our team did so much more to uplift our community, but there's too much to list here.
Now, we need as much help as we can get to be prepared for our busiest weeks of the year in 2023. We need volunteers, donations, and support to make sure that we can continue to make a difference in our community. We are committed to helping those in need and we need your help to make sure that we can continue to do so.
