Grab a $1.50 can and let your wallet take the night off. Not quite 30-cent drafts, but still a steal 🤭🙈😎

Join the Downingtown Area Chamber of Commerce for lunch & conversation with local business leaders! This event is designed to highlight the incredible resources, programs, and services your neighborhood organizations provide and which directly benefit our community and residents.

This month's luncheon will showcase one of our very own Post Officers, Judge Advocate Matthew Konchel, and his law firm, Konchel & Associates, P.C., a boutique estate planning and transactional business legal practice. They provide personalized counseling, business and estate plan reviews and drafting services with the primary goal of educating people about “what they don’t know they don’t know” in order to “solve problems before they become problems” and thereby keep clients, their families, and their businesses “out of court and out of conflict.”

As a combat veteran, Matthew is proud to host this event at the Brandywine Home Association (BHA). The BHA operates and maintains the "Canteen" for Downingtown’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 845, which includes a family-style restaurant, old-world style pub and bar, a billiards room, and small games of chance that make it one of the Borough’s best-kept “secret” dining establishments. In essence, the BHA is the food, beverage, and entertainment part of the VFW organization; it is from the proceeds of the BHA that bills are paid and the VFW is able to donate money to multiple worthy causes.

While veterans of VFW Post 845 automatically become BHA members, the majority are actually social members, not foreign war veterans. Membership in the BHA is open to the general public, and any person of good character may apply to become a social member of the BHA and for a $30 annual fee enjoy all the benefits of membership.

Due to our State and Federal government elected officials inability to perform their most basic duty of passing a budget, VFW Post 845 is taking the initiative to support the members of our community that are most in need, as we have done since 1932, by conducting a food drive for The Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown and the Lincolns Promise Pantry at the Coatesville VA. We will also make a financial donation to both food banks. Nearly 30,000 Chester County residents rely on SNAP benefits to help purchase groceries each month. Due to the federal shutdown, SNAP payments are paused and will not resume until a federal budget is approved and payments are reinstated. Any resident struggling during this time can call 211, not only for food resources, but also for assistance with housing, utilities, medical services, and other human needs.
Therefore, we are asking all of our members and non-members who frequent our Post to bring with them an item or items to donate to The Lord’s Pantry and The Lincoln’s Promise Pantry starting today, Friday, October 31st and running until the end of the Federal Government shutdown and the resumption of SNAP benefits. Please spread the word to your neighbors and friends, let them know they can drop items off to us here at the Post, and lets show our community that we are not just Veterans Taking Care of Veterans but also Veterans Taking Care of Our Community!

The Mission

That the purpose of this Corporation shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable, and educational: to preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members; to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead; and to assist their widows and orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America, and fidelity to its Constitution and laws; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies.

The Commander of Post 845, at every monthly meeting asks, "Is there a Comrade or the family of a Comrade in distress?" The Post stands ready to assist any Veteran or his or her family in every way possible.
