October 26, 2024 marks 224 years since the passing of William Doyle, credited with founding our beloved hometown of Doylestown, PA. The Borough got its start thanks to land grants from William Penn. In 1692, the Doyle family was a recipient of such a grant, in what is now the central commercial district of Doylestown. By the early 1700s our town was fast becoming a crossroads stop for travelers heading between Philadelphia and New York. As a service to weary travelers, the Doyle brothers built the first of two taverns bearing their name.
The crossroads village was referred to as Doyle’s Tavern, eventually renamed Doylestown and still a busy “crossroads” for visitors neat and far!
Our guests can enjoy a cozy fireplace and perfect view of Mr. Doyle’s former tavern, now , from the front windows of Room 307, the William Doyle Room!
