The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business.
Running a business is really hard.
What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people.
People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you; they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.
People will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.
You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back. Are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality, you can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.
Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is often no work-life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All while being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend...
There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. If they are successful, they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting—especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.
Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses…….and hopefully more of us will stick around!

Wedding Spotlight – Wendy and Franco!

What a way to end 2021 – a lovely wedding with two amazing people!

Wendy and Franco are the owners of Darianna Bridal here in Warrington, PA. Our meeting was by chance… as I was seated next to Franco during my very first networking event after moving from DE to Pennsylvania. Any nerves that I had about being “new” easily faded away as I came to see how “real” these two are! So, fast forward to December 2021 - as nervous as I was about being their wedding photographer, I also knew that being able to “click” so quickly with them in real life, it would be very easy to continue that real and easygoing relationship on their wedding day!

The couple knew exactly what they wanted for their wedding day - a beautiful, intimate location with their closest friends and family. The Black Bass in New Hope, PA totally delivered, and the bonus was the unseasonably warm weather in December! Fiona and her team at Black Bass were nothing less than spectacular in anticipating the needs of the wedding party and guests alike. I used the pre-ceremony time to capture images of them together, as well as with their lovely daughters, both at the hotel site and the Lumberville Foot Bridge. Besides beautiful images, there were so many laughs that I had tears in my eyes! (I LOVE being able to see couples and families being themselves and not holding anything back. It truly makes for some spectacular images AND memories, that’s for sure!)
