Where did that name come from? Sit down right here and I will tell you.. was born in Stephenville TX. in 1918, where his family worked on various ranches. With that background, it was natural that he become a REAL cowboy, and learned to cook "chuck wagon" style over an open campfire. The Dumas family left the country and settled in the"North Side" of Ft. Worth, which is near the fabled and legenda
ry stockyards-at that time, the barns and pens went on for miles, as livestock was being unloaded and loaded for sale at the auction barns or over to The Armour packing plant. Curtis got a job over in the Mule barns, working Mules and it was here that he worked a deal with Joseph A. Edelbrock Saddlery, breaking in "new" saddles in the barns-saddle soaping the leather and getting the new leather broke in. Well, it didn't take long before Curtis starred taking all of his acquired skills to the rodeo circuit, riding bare-backed Broncs! His rodeo days were numbered when he met my Dad's Mom and she helped put some polish on the rough cowboy-he even bought his first suit and tie at Stripling Brothers Dept. store in Ft. Worth-the FINEST store West of Dallas. With his new bride, and suit, and growing family, he became THE BEST salesman anybody knew, he could sell deep freezers to Eskimos! Over time, he continued to BBQ GREAT chicken, briskets, etc., and developed a BBQ sauce that was, and still is THE BEST anyone had ever tried! I recall, as a kid, helping him tend the fire and make HUGE pots of his sauce-folks would come from miles around to eat, visit and take home quart jars of his BBQ sauce. After his death, some things were lost to time, but NOT in my heart and mind-his presence is always with me. As if by some sort of transcendental channeling, I have captured his sauce and his style off BBQ'ing, and with that I offer it to all of you! BBQ is not just some sort of food or a style of cooking, but for me, is a way of life and a way to honor my Grandfather. I invite you to try my brisket, pork butt, and sauce and enjoy a bit of a legacy!
