As we celebrate the six-year anniversary of Tillie's, we're taking a moment to reflect on the journey that brought us here. From the beginning, our goal has been to offer a unique dining experience that blends global inspiration with local charm, all in a setting rich with history.
Our name originates from the inspiring story of a woman named Attilia "Tillie" Aldridge Anderson Hancock. Attilia was a world traveler who brought her international discoveries to Austin and its surrounding communities. More than 150 years later, her great-grandson, , carries on that tradition.
Among her many accomplishments, Attilia was credited with being the first female developer in Austin when she oversaw the development of the Aldridge Place subdivision, a historic district located just north of the University of Texas campus, built from part of the original Hancock estate.
and Whit could not think of a more deserving name than Tillie’s for such a historic and profound woman in Texas history.
