It’s time these little blue beauties had the spotlight! We’ve grown Bachelor’s Buttons, also known as cornflowers, for years but found them difficult to harvest and often neglected them. This year, we got growing and harvesting figured out and are finally enjoying them.
Originally named Cornflower because they grew so easily in corn fields, they also came to be known as Bachelor’s Buttons during the Victorian era because young men would wear them in the buttonhole of their suit when courting women, making the flower a popular symbol of love and availability.
Whether they are part of a wedding boutonniere or a little fairy bouquet, they certainly stand out among the pink, peach, and yellow flowers here on the farm. We love the pop of blue in our bouquets this time of year.
