AICHO is screening the movie “Gather” on August 30, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m at the Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center, 212 W. 2nd St, Duluth, MN. This event is free, and we welcome the public.

“Gather” follows the stories of Natives on the frontlines of a growing movement to reconnect with spiritual and cultural identities that were devastated by genocide. An indigenous chef embarks on a ambitious project to reclaim ancient food ways on the Apache reservation; in South Dakota a gifted Lakota high school student, raised on a buffalo ranch, is proving her tribes native wisdom through her passion for science; and a group of young men of the Yurok tribe in Northern California are struggling to keep their culture alive and rehabilitate the habitat of their sacred salmon. All these stories combine to show how the reclaiming and recovery of ancient food ways is a way forward for native Americans to bring back health and vitality to their people.

Free art and leadership program is being offered to Indigenous middle schoolers! It's not too late to sign up! Hosted weekly at the AICHO (and 3 select dates at the DAI Lincoln Park Building), the program is provided at no cost to participants. The session runs from 5-7pm and a meal will be provided. This is an ideal opportunity for students to delve into their creative interests while gaining leadership experience. Participants can request compensate on fuel cost for transportation.

Middle schoolers explore disciplines such as ceramics, multimedia, painting, sketching, photography, and murals while also learning the difference between social movements, social activism, and protests. Each year, the program offers different opportunities for students to showcase their growth and achievements. Past projects have included presentations, exhibitions, and even a visit to city hall.
