Did you know that The Grove at Center Point was once a schoolhouse? Read some interesting history about the schoolhouse below.

CENTER POINT SCHOOL

In the early spring of 1928, Superintendent W. A.Hixson and the Sequatchie County Board of Education decided that New Hope, Oak •Hi11, and The Hall Schools would be consolidated.
Board members at that time were: John Barker, Chairman; J . P. • Barker, F. A. Boynton, Matt Minton, G. C. Elliott, and W. T. Grant.
They purchased a tract of land consisting of 3.12 acres for the sum of $312.00. The land was bought from the heirs of Joe L . Thurnan.
It was located in the Third District, one-half mile north of Chapel Hill Methodist Church on the east side of Highway 28 (the Alvin C. York Highway).
Center Point School, a red brick building was built by George W. Smith.
The county piped water from one of Carl Condra's mountain springs to the school campus.
The school was lighted with electricity in
1941. Also i n 1941, the school changed from a three-teacher school to a four-teacher school.
Center Point School was noted for its plays, operettas, pageants, and a variety of programs.
It was also active in 4-H Club work. students participated in softball and basketball and took part in school contests.
A parent-teacher association was a vital part of the school activities.

William W. Grissom; EuniceA. Barker;
James Norman; Haston Johnson;

Johnson; Janice Hixson (Mrs. Milden Shough); Hallie Rogers; Lorraine Porter; Roma Lee Hogue; Lennie Mae Lewis; Sammie Jane Cannon; George P. Owers; Agnes Tollett; Ben H. Cantrell; James R. Talley; Edna Jackson; Ruth Lamb; Gladys Hamilton, and Johnnie Lewis.
Johnnie Lewis was the last principal. Pauline Mansfield Allen taught private piano lessons at the school.
Center Point School became part of Griffith Elementary School- in the fall of 1963.
Today, Mr . and Mrs. James P. Grove own Center Point School and have converted the building into an attractive brick home. The 3.12 acre tract of land also has been beautifully landscaped.

And now we have transformed it into a beautiful wedding venue that has a perfect view of the Tennessee mountains with timeless sunsets. We have select dates available for 2024 and are already booking into 2025!

Let’s talk about arbors—
Here at The Grove we have several styles and colors that are available for use. If you’re looking for a more rustic look we have the beautiful triangle metal arbor that gives off a unique style. The hand built white wooden arbor is great for your elegant look when we place fabric over it for your pop of color. We also have the gold round arbor, and then my personal favorite is the wooden arbor that is at the end of the stone walkway under the trees.
You say you don’t want to use an arbor, that works too! Whether you’re in front of the mountains or under the trees we’ve got a look for you!

We have very few select dates available for the remainder of 2024 and we’re already booking into 2025!
