This spring, learn a fun new way to exercise and de-stress! We currently have two Aerial Lyra and Trapeze classes on the schedule that are still accepting enrollments.

The Tween/Teen Aerial Lyra and Trapeze class meets on Monday evenings from 8:00-9:00pm. This is a beginning class for ages 12 years - 16 years of age. No experience is necessary to join this class.

The Adult Aerial Lyra & Trapeze class meets on Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30 and is open to beginners from age 16 years - adult.

Meet one DSBPA's amazing Aerial and Conditioning teachers, Melinda Wiggins!

Melinda Wiggins has loved dance since childhood, but only began taking dance classes as an adult. She has taken African, hip-hop, break dance, caribbean, salsa, merengue, cumbia, bachata, belly dance, lindy hop, swing, and ballet at several local studios.

Melinda began taking aerial classes in 2009 and knew that it was the perfect combination of dance and athletics that she was seeking. She has completed aerial silks teacher training with the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA) receiving certification in Introduction and Foundation Levels, and with Born to Fly in Level 1. Melinda is also certified in Pilates Basic Mat by the Pilates Certification of NC. She teaches beginning and intermediate aerial silks, as well as conditioning classes.

Durham Ballet Theatre returns to the stage May 20, 2023 with Enchanted Stories.

Performances at 3p & 6p.

Act 1 features favorite pieces from each of our four, full-length story ballets: Cinderella, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan. These pieces include ballet, aerial and modern, each piece was personally selected for it’s beauty and fun. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do. 🪄

Act 2 will be selected pieces from both Classical Ballet and Contemporary repertoire and features 4 professional dancers at the top of their form. George Sanders (Twyla Tharp company), and Lilit Hogtanian (Slovak National Theatre Ballet) have graced the DBT stage in
previous shows. Marzia Memoli (Martha Graham Company) and Jared Brunson (Complexions Contemporary Ballet) will be joining us for their first performance with DBT. We are thrilled to have such stellar talent dancing with our company. ⭐️

Join DSBPA Instructor Nicki Miller for our Monday evening Contemporary dance class each week! This class is open level for dancers ages 11 to adult. Contemporary dancers use a vast range of motion that connects the mind and body through fluid dance movements. Our contemporary classes will include across the floor combos, center of the floor combos, choreography and dance improvisation. Meet DSBPA ballet and contemporary instructor, Nicki Miller!

Nicki Miller began her ballet training at the age of 5, along with Tap and Jazz. She began studying and taking Ballet exams with the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) in England, and the Cechetti Council of America in the U.S. Nicki went on to train in Ballet and Modern at Virginia School of the Arts and continued at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, where she performed with the Kansas City Ballet. She has enjoyed performing with local companies including Nosi Dance, Gaspard & Dancers, KT Collective, Shaleigh Dance Works, and Soul Struck Dance Company. Recently she has been exploring contemporary movement and studying street dance, primarily Break. Nicki has grown a passion for teaching and loves connecting and growing with people through dance and music.

This 5- week session will begin February 4th and run through March 4th, 2023. Space is limited! Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week?! Time has flown by and we are thrilled to announce the second season of classes will begin on Tuesday 11/29/22. Along with many other offerings, we will be providing a Primary class on Tuesdays, A Pre Primary class on Wednesdays, and a weekly Aerial Foundations class for all ages (no experience necessary!) For the week beginning Monday October 24 and ending on Halloween, Monday October 31 we invite everyone to wear their favorite Halloween costume! If you are enrolled in more than one class per week, you can wear a different costume every class!

Please make sure the costumes are "G" rated so that everyone can enjoy them and remember you have to be able to take class in them, so no chain mail for silks aerialists -- that would not end well for you or the silks.

Also, no weapons of any kind and remember we have loads of small children so keep the blood-dripping zombie costume at home.
